Attached are two pictures that show the broken toggle switch, and the broken antenna. Some Radio's are easy to find parts for, but I am not having too much luck with my Futaba!

Is there an antenna "better" than the OEM one?

And the toggle switch, I could probably rob one off one of my old radio's that are collecting dust. Probably could get the antenna off of one, but I want to make sure I get the correct and best available.

Thanks for your help,
Dennis

Have you called hobbiico. I'm sure they would send you the parts you need. They are the Futaba distributor.

Futaba 14SG antenna

They will not sell you the antenna directly, but you can probably get it thru Radio South or you can send it in for repair.

Interesting, you can order from JR all day long, no problem.

Futaba is not like this. I have split cases on both radios, and it certainly looks like the Jr antenna will fit on the Futaba.

Even the toggle switch, I could rob one off an old transmitter and put on the Futaba.

Just thinking, if someone disagrees, PLEASE let me know I am going the wrong direction.

Well, IMO... That is the kind of job I'd send tx to futaba tech, living in US.

But, in my place, that is the thing I will repair myself.

Be careful with the wire - end of the Antenna which is glued on the top.
Most of WiFi antennas has same mechanism of rotate and bend.

When you finish your work, before flight, do extensive range test...

I would send it to Futaba. Modifying the antenna could invalidate the FCC type certification making it an illegal modification. They also have the proper test equipment to verify the repair is working correctly.

I agree with Futaba have the proper equipment, but I didn't realize modifying the antenna, even replacing it with the Futaba antenna could invalidate the FCC certification, and making it an illegal modification.

Maybe this is why they make it so hard to order the replacement antenna.

I am going to contact Futaba tomorrow. Thanks for all the help.

Dennis,
Back in the day before 2.4 , it was illegal for the end user to change the frequency of their radio systems by swapping out the crystals..... reason being that without the proper equipment (and knowledge on using it) it was not possible to determine if the new frequency after the swap was transmitting within specifications......
Of course, many did so anyway as enforcement of that FCC regulation was nearly impossible.....

Juan,

Yes, I changed a few crystals. I never knew it was illegal!

Dennis

PS: In Fact, the club I was in suggested changing them. When too many of one frequency was used, this was the solution!

Looks like you picked up the T14SG by holding onto the antenna.

At your level of skill & experience, you have no business servicing the 14SG ...do yourself a favor and send it to Hobbico for service and be done with.

This is your connection to the heli..Please DO NOT COMPROMISE for your sake and those around you when you fly.

LOL, it was dropped which caused the damage to the antenna and the switch. If I was the one who dropped it, I would be mad at myself.

I posted this as I found it unbelievable that simple parts are hard to get for this radio, plus I wanted to see if a better alternative is available. Someone in Germany "use" to have them, but they are no longer available.

As stated, Jr and Spektrum Radios are easy to get part for.

I have the parts on the way.

long ago i broke a switch on my 10c due to the stock futaba neck strap coming loose when i was picking up my heli (Rolled out of the clasp). told the story and sent a video to futaba, they repaired the radio, and included a brand new high end neck strap, returned the radio in 2 weeks.

Switches sure, i would repair if i had the parts, antenna components, yup can doo it, butttttt, send it to the experts, this could be a story that adds more regulations to our hobby, drones have already done enough damage...

If you knew the TX was dropped and purchased it anyway
- the antenna and switch is the least of your concerns
- could of cracked a transitor or an internal component
- it's best to send it in, explain it's been dropped for a thorough evaluation
- while it's in, let them know about the rotary switch you've complained about
