I am trying to find a pilot to fit the Starwood Lama which is 1/5 scale

Looking for a scale model is difficult, try searching for models by height,
You know your own height in inch's, divide that by your desired scale, 4/5/6, the result is the height of the model you are looking for
Action man will fill your brief
I have found that model figurer's bought from the same supplier look the same, heads/faces/outfits, all similar
I have box's of models and outfits, but with action man there are only a few that fit our brief, the blue pants model is the most articulate and flexible for our uses
recently I have been checking out other figures and outfits, just to be different
China churns out loads of different outfits nearly all 1/6th scale but fit the action men/woman
Just a small sample of my collection

Dr Tim, You have put a 16" pilot into a Starwood Lama?
The only Starwood Lama I have seen up close was John Tanners, I am sure his pilot was not that big
Do you have a photo?

I may be wrong but all the pics I have seen of full scale Lamas the pilots all look small sitting in the cockpit when looking at the top of the door glass.

Any thing on the seat, is better, than seeing a scale heli fly past, with NOTHING
Depending where you are in the world each country lists there average size for male and female, divide this by the scale you require and that would be correct for that country
There is no fixed height for a pilot, and we are not all the same height, so it is a compromise
Even the heli kits are not the same size for what they say is the scale
A Starwood Lama at 1/5th scale, is smaller than a Vario at 1/5th scale, fact
So what size pilot, at 1/5th scale
for 5'.0" tall 12"
5'.3" 13"
5'.8" 14"
6'.3" 15"
6'.8" 16"
The photo's are of a full size Alouette II
My Alouette II
A Bell 47
Both the scale pilots are 15"
Something else to take account of, there is a height restriction for pilots wishing to take full size instruction on some helicopters, so smaller scale is not alway incorrect
As a note Alouette II and Lama cabins are the same size

Hi Peter Rob
Thank you for that detailed breakdown on sizes.
It will help a lot of us building scale helis.

Remember, when scaling your helicopters, it is not an exact science, do the best you can, to get as close as you can
But more important fly the damm things
Peter R

Barry,
