I am building a few scales for my winter projects.

I have a JR9303, but it looks like I will be needing one with more channels.

700 size scale heli's, Agusta 109A and one more similar to it, maybe a MD500.

What do you recommend?

I will be using the Skookum 720 Blue Series w/GPS H, or the DJI Wookong H w a GPS.

What is your recommendation for the above two units? I want to make sure I have enough radio to use all the options.

Thanks, Dennis

I've used a Spektrum DX9 for about 3 years now and it has performed very well, no issues at all. 9 channels, and all the switches and knobs are fully programmable and assignable to about any channel or function that you can imagine.

Having stated my personal preference, I think it is safe to say that all of the major brands offer stellar performance.

With a scale bird, the question I have is just how many functions(channels) will the end result need?

9 channels will be perfect for pretty much 80% of most builds. But there is always the extreme build factor so just follow the K.I.S.S. method and you will get your answer there.

I am thinking about an Agusta 109A, 700 size.

My JR9303 is not going to cut it, so I am looking to upgrade.

I love the menu on the 9303, and would like to have something with more channels and just as easy to navigate in.

The Spektrum DX9 is a good radio. I have used it and the JR.

Let me know your thoughts before I make the plunge. Also, the best place to purchase one.

Thanks, Dennis

OK, I now have a 1/4 scale MD500.

Probably need a 12 or 14 channel Transmitter.

Your recommendations and thoughts.

Merry Christmas,
Dennis

K.I.S.S.

with that heli i am very curious why you feel you need so many channels.

example
1 throttle
2 ail
3 elevator
4 rubber
5 gear / tail gain
6 aux 1/pitch
7 aux2 head gain
8 navigation lights
9 landing lights

and that is a lot for a scale. i have almost 20 on mine but i jumped to the deep end of the ocean before i could tread water so it was sink or swim.....

all im saying is fully think it through for what your building. And then go for it. We all are here to help...

Thanks CoachE,

Yes, I will KISS it. I managed many people thru my career and the main thing I told them (including my boss one time) is to keep everything simple.

I have about 9 or 10 Heli's at the moment. I thought maybe get a 12 channel or so and be done with it for now and in the future.

I would use the extra channels for lights.

Ironically, I just finished reading an article from Skookum, author is supposedly one of their experts, and by coincidence the is using a JR9303. I almost dropped my laptop when I saw this article as I have 2 of these Radios and use them exclusively.

But, it opened my eyes. He used channels in a way I never thought of, but it works!

I just thought in this day and time there might be a better unit. With saying this, for what it's worth, some are stating they like the new VBar. I am not sold on it yet, and especially for the money, I am not getting ready to purchase one.

With saying this, it's time to shut my eyes for the night.

Merry Christmas All,
Dennis

I think the JR XG14 would suit you and all your models nicely, now and into the future. I love mine and only have 2 models!
