I am not following entirely, did you replace engines or just the electronic ignitions?

If EI ,Check this webpage out:
http://www.rcextremepower.net/timing.html

Whenever I had to start from scratch on an engine conversion I normally figure out the magnet placement to spark to match top-dead-center and retard about 5 degrees. Then begin test runs advancing the spark (magnet placement) about 2 degrees at the time until I get the smoothest behavior of the engine.

BTW, I used CH ignitions.

Good luck

The Electronic ignition module is what I'm talking about , the engine is the early tanaka 20cc that Hirobo first used in the bell 47..what I did was changed the original failed EI with A Zenoah one and because that engine has a swing arm to advance the ignition worked by the throttle linkage , I fitted a ball link rod to the arm so this wont move as the module has auto advance ....
