years ago,

in 1959 my father paid $11,000 for his house, it had 14 rooms, it was a 2 level 2 family house, with 2 storage rooms for each level off the back, plus it had a very large front entrance room both levels used, and a very large basement,

in 1960 my Grandfather (a carpenter) built himself a new house, it had a very large living room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, a 2nd toilet, a big kitchen, a laundry room, and a basement, what did it cost my grandfather to build including outfitting the kitchen>>>> $4000,

today

I received an estimate to replace the bow window in the front of my house, the estimate was $4,500

Jim, you should have had the BAY WINDOW
replaced in 1978!

I love gravity, it always keeps my feet planted when I fly!

Well, the positive side of this is, if the beast gets into the oval office, she could pay for the new bay window?

With the increase in taxes for all the liberal free schit, you wouldn't be able to afford it. You should get some free schit too.

just sayin.

in 1959 my father paid $11,000 for his house,
But the average wage earner was about 1 to 2 dollars an hour.
Gas was 25 cents a gallon.
So $11000 was till a big chunk of money.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

But the average wage earner was about 1 to 2 dollars an hour.
In 1959 dollars $1-$2
In 2016 dollars $8-$16
So $11000 was till a big chunk of money.
$11000 in 1959 would be less then $90000
Alot if money yes,... big house money not realy.
Gas was 25 cents a gallon.
Gas at .25 in 1959 would be just over $2.00 a gallon today.

All based on current inflation of today.

GOT FBL?

hummm, I don't know why you say that, but I guess I could have replace a window in my house in 1978 if I owned a house in 1978,

BTW it was a bow window, not a bay window
But the average wage earner was about 1 to 2 dollars an hour.
the key word there is "average", and my father didn't work in the avrage plywood factory

What's the real difference between a "Bow" window and a "Bay" window? I just looked them both up on wikipedia and really couldn't tell them apart. One is rounded, the other faceted???

Inflation calculator from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. It's kinda fun to play with.
