Hey all,

Some might remember me - flew for a LONG time back in the day..well I retired from DJing and got a day job so got a bit of spare time now so im back with a new Align 470 and a 550X when it comes out, had lots of helis in the past but havent flown for years.

Sold all my old gear so need a new Tx, whats the one to get?? leaning towards Spektrum DX18 rigth now, it felt good and had heaps of options.

After any advice,..

Who know's might paint again too

I don't know what your budget is, but I would look at the JR XG8 and XG14.

Both are JR quality and use the newer DMSS protocol. The programming is very easy/intuitive. Basic telemetry it built in to every receiver (for receiver power voltage) and various sensors can be easily added for main pack voltage, RPM, etc.

If you want top of the line, look at the JR 28X-not an inexpensive radio but incredible to use/fly with.

Another!!

Since you stopped flying, JR and Spektrum have gone separate ways..
I flew JR/Spektrum equipment for years..(9503, 10X, and 12X)
I now use the new JR XG8 for my small and float flier type models, and back up, just in case!! But my main is now the new JR XG14... this is an amazing tx... I found as I was converting from DSMX to the new DMSS, I had to reduce travel and increase expo on every model... the link is solid and feels as if you have your hand inside the aircraft moving the surfaces... then there is thr JR "Feel"
I am on the JR team, but I promise this isn't a sales pitch or Ford/Chevy post..
Best of luck with whatever you might choose!!

I would guess that if you are considering a dx18 then you could afford an xg14 or the xg11. The 11 has a better resolution on the radio but the 14 feels a little better holding it. If it were me I would look at one of those two. Also if I remember right they have a deal going on where if you buy a radio at JR Americas you can get two free receivers. That is a good deal

They seem to be great radios, but damn they look ugly - to me anyway lol

To us old guys all radios from the last 30 years look like robot toy crap. The 28X is fairly inoffensive as are the 14FG and 18SZ.

I have to agree. Really I like the looks of the 28x. We do have the xg11 and that has grown on me. I do like it prolly next

Haha I know what you mean, wow just realised I got my first heli back in 1996 - a Hirobo Shuttle.

Another question im building a Trex 470, is there a JR DMSS satelite to plug into the Microbeast...small heli dont want to add a Rx as well as if needed.

Im leaning towards the XG14 right now, 28 is out of price range by a mile, here in Australia its going for about $3k.

So far, I don't think you can plug a DMSS Satellite into a Microbeast, but...

You can use (and a friend of mine does this) one of the very small DMSS X Bus receivers and use one cable from the receiver to the FBL unit.

This is the receiver a friend of mine has been using on his 700 size machine using X-Bus (in his case with an MSH Brain).

You use a 612bx receiver. They are not much bigger than a sat and the wire is way more solid than a sat wire. Lot better setup. You only use one wire just like the sats do.

Awesome thanks for all your help guys, interesting thing is its hard to find JR gear in store down here...the stores are flooded with Spektrum gear.

The store I went to yesterday had one low end JR radio, a couple Futaba's and almost every Spektrum on display.
