$300 is not going to buy a rig for RealFlightX. Maybe the graphics card.

Thing is, a lot of people now have gaming rigs. No, I'm not going to build a $1500 box just for a sim. But, I happen to have one built already. Why not take advantage of it? I'm going to look forward to flipping it up in to 4k resolution and maxing everything out. I haven't found anything yet that even gets my GTX 970 breathing hard.

if it ain't broke, break it.

I play flight sim on stream as well as other flight sim games on my pc, so to me , its kinda worth the upgrade,
besides I kinda want to do the VR thing as well and give that a go,,

but I'm sure a wallmart pc tower will work,, theres ones for $380-$480 that have an i5 cpu in them that will run this at a pretty good setting, and if you have a good gpu that will take some load off the cpu and you will be able to run at higher specs.

its just like phones, every year theres a better one,, you just have to find that fine line of what works for you and what your needs are , and once content , sit on it for a few years before getting new.

@ cuda,,

man I bet your pc would play fallout and do VR at max settings!

whats your build if you don't mind me asking?

I got a i3 @3.70

8gb ram

genforce 610gt card (cheap $45 card)

stock 350w ps
1680x1050 res

not good at all lol . but I want an i7 and your gpu , and like a 500w ps,, that should get me where I need to be,,
and should have no problem running rf at max settings,,

as is right now , I can run rf7.5 at med setting , to get around 100-130fps

@flyboy:

I'm not a huge gamer. But, my son is. And, I thought 'I'll build him a top of the line box and I'll get to use my sim on it as part of the bargain'. It's hooked to the big screen in the living room. It's a couple of years old now, so not top of the line any more. But, it's still plenty beefy.

I think I changed the case and used 8gb of ram. I also had a 5.1 digital surround card on hand, so it's not in the build list. aside from that this is it:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/hkQPNG

when I built it both the processor and graphics card were twice as much. that's kinda depressing to see now

I'm lost? its a dell inspiron ? with an i5 (the i7 is I think $540) and I think 16gb of ram?

all you need is a gpu and your set for a few years on most any game.

so I'm kinda lost as to your comment

When you are looking for this kind of stuff... you do NOT buy the minimum... I7-7600 32gig ram and a nvidia gtx1060 is not going to be less than $1500 or so if you build it.

I have not priced it out... but you telling everyone to run to Kmart and buy the slow stuff is not going to make them happy, so stop quoting $400. You can spend that much on the graphics card alone. Is that clear enough?

$300 is the starting price... you can find great deals now-a-day and it only gets better as time goes.

I ran:
- Real Flight 6.0 with a 2005 PC mini platform that worked very well
- also have use Real Flight 7.5 without a hiccup.

I'm certain with the same PC I purchased from Fry for $329, the Real Flight X will worked very good providing Video Card has enough memory.

Real Flight X is not even out yet(ships late Oct16)... how can you say that you have run it?

The new Real Flight takes a substantially better puter. What is your motive here?

I am not trying to beat up on you Scott. I just don't want people to be disappointed when they buy new rigs and it does not run the new real flight well. The new Real Flight requires more of a gaming machine. $300 will buy a lot these days, but don't expect that to get a gaming machine.

Moving Rx from one Tx to another??
I have not had any luck doing this. It always requires a bit of adjustment. Just going from one Dx8 to another... I would never fly without adjusting the swash level and checking out the major settings. Seems as there are small voltage differences. Helis are very finicky.

that pretty much kills every single laptop on the market... and pretty much 75% of all consumer desktops which use integrated graphics (GPU and CPU combo cores)...
There reccomended minimum spec is a GeForce 460. That card was released 6 years ago.... they are up to GeForce 1000 now.

Not exactly cutting edge... LOTS of laptops have upgrade graphics options these days if you are looking at anything but the $399 Best buy special..

Are you expecting an Apple IIc version also?

I never said I played realflight x !?

I said my system as is plays mine (rf 7.5) just fine on med settings.

I agree with jharkin,

and I'm pretty sure that dell insprion (around $499 ) is not slow at all , and is quick and more than most of us could ever need,

the gpu (or lack there of "built in " ) is the only weakness,
get a $180 gpu and you now can run the new real flight x without a problem,

so again how is telling everyone to get one and its a bad choice?
are you drinking again ?

I'm pretty sure that all sims will require better specs , because they will want to compete , soo , either way , theres a big shift going on in the sim world lol,

so instead of bickering lets talk the sim ,

as mentioned , the lack of models is , well meh,,

and the fact there a run over from rf 7.5 is meh as well,,

you would think with this new platform they want to show off what it can do ,

and if by using old models in rf-x to show how much better they all look , well that's cool and all , but wtf ,, how bout a few "newer" models as well

that could be a big turn away for most,,,
thank god for swamp pages

Hey Flyboy,
My comment was not even to you.
lighten up and take your meds.

I am saying read the program's requirements and don't think that the minimum requirements are going to be fine. Yes I agree, just because they recovered the castle and the observatory that it is going to be great. I want to see new content aircraft with lots of polys.

I did not see that in the video, but I could be wrong. The runway showed a lot of texture and the trees and terrain seemed to be awesome.

As an RC simulator, with 7.5 we pretty much have what we need. Going forward, more polys would mean planes like the skyraider.

I have pretty much beat this horse to death... so nothing further.
