Hey all,

Sorry if there is a similar thread with the same question but I can't find one specifically.

I'm using a Chaos 600E FBL air frame for a Roban 700 size JR.

I plan to use a Scorpion HKIII-4035-500 with a Castle Edge 120HV on 12S and looking for a target HS of about 1350ish calculated on MrMel HS calculator.

164t MG /12t pinion as described below. I need to mention straight cut gears are preferred as I plan to run the rotation opposite of stock. CCW instead of CW with the TR flipped.

I have the KDE universal main gear case :

Wondering if this MG does in fact bolt to the above gear case. (I believe it does but want to be sure)
https://www.amainhobbies.com/kde-di...-mdgm07/p186592

And if this pinion will work on the Scorpion motor and is the correct pitch (mesh) for the above MG :

Also wondering if it's worth finding/using an upgrade head assembly (prefer non DFC as it would mean cutting away more of the glass fuse)

Am I figuring this correctly or should I be looking for a different solution ?

Thanks

lots of assembly required

OK, a couple things.

I think that is the correct KDE hub.

You can use the KDE main gear. Personally I have used the Align Trex 700 164T Mod 0.7 white main gears for a few years in my Seahawk - vastly cheaper.

DO NOT USE A 12T MOD 0.7 6MM PINION !!!!!! Check the maths - there is something like 0.12mm of metal between the root of the tooth and the 6mm hole. There has been several reports of them shattering (a good brand, never mind a HobbyKing), including one of mine. One guy wrote off a well detailed completed heli (a MD500 from memory) afew years ago (HF forums).

A 13T is as small as you can go on a Mod 0.7 6mm pinion.

RPM = 500kV x 44.4V x 0.9 (efficiency) x 13T / 164T = 1584rpm at 100% throttle towards the end of the flight. So with a CC ESC, you want to aim for between 90-95% governor, so you are aiming for between 1425rpm and 1505rpm.

Now this might be a touch fast for a 2 blade 700 (I run my Vario Long Ranger with 710mm blades at 1350rpm).

I would suggest a XNova 3040-470kV motor - will drop above speeds to 1340rpm and 1415rpm respectively. I run an Xera (earlier "model" of XNova) 4030-470kV motor in my LR and it has plenty of power and hasn't missed a beat. Alternatively look for a 450kV motor.

A lot of great info Colin, thank you !

I was looking at the 12t pinion on hobbyking thinking the motor shaft wall looked horribly thin. I'm glad you brought this to my attention !

Instead of the Scorpion motor, I found an Align 750 450KV and the Align MG and pinion (13 and 14 tooth)

Now I just wait for the post office lol ...

lots of assembly required
