Looking for ideas please, flying electric and Nitro, using Spectrum dsm2 satellites with Skookum 540 on both helis, after a full flight my fbl unit is flashing red after plugging it into my PC it tells me I have lost the rx link but nothing shows up in flight and both satellites remain solid,My radio JR dsx9 was checked last year and is working perfectly,so my question is do the Spectrum receivers lose signal elements from time to time, the really weird thing is this only happens every 20 flights or so.

some things to check:

Is the satellite blocked by anything carbon fiber?

I like to mount my satellites as far away as possible from the motor and esc.

Any bare spots on the satellite wires?

A good steady voltage supply to the receiver?

It's strange it is happening on both machines.

The skookum has playback logging where you can see how many signal fades you have on each SAT.
You may just have one in a bad place.

Sats

Thanks for replies,I checked that the sats are open to the carbon frame and the wires are all good,my batteries for nitro are all life 6.6v,I have thin tubing on the wires but dont think its a problem,on my old nitro which has the same set up has been ok NO brownouts,a thought are the sats to close togethere.

Don't mean to come across harsh... but you can guess at it or you can take a flight with the playback logging enabled and view exact results from the Skookum.
Your call.

No not harch I know exactly what you mean I have logging and play back good and ready,I can only wait until it does it again and plug the pc in and save the file and send to Skookum directly asap, unfortunetly there is no other way around it,I checked my life 6.6v battery and the wiring,I have no switches,in the mean time I will just change the Spektrum satellite cables.

Reseat all the satellite connections or replace the cables.

DSM2 or DSM sats? Where both my work, depending on your transmitter (did IT get the update for DSM2?) One will be prone to problems binding.

I do like the reseat and or replace wires suggestion.

Just do one flight... no need to wait for it to blink again.
If they are bad enough to get a fault 1 in 20 times... the other 19 times aren't going to show excellent SAT reception. ( this is assuming its a reception issue )
If it shows good in the LOG, then you are having a different issue than SAT placement.

I wish I knew more about SATs than I do about Skookum... but that's where my experience ends. LOL

Good luck getting it sorted out.

Upgrade your radio to DMSS. I know you will have to wait for Horizon to return your transmitter but still. I used or tried to use DMSS on my X9503 as mentioned earlier. It worked but most of the time it didnt bind properly, blinking lights but everything functioned. My solution was to buy two DMS2 sats and problem gone. Ill never know if it would have lost signal on me but I did not want to find out in the air. I think I still have the two DSMX sats on the shelf. I did not want to ship my tx out for the free upgrade.

Here is that thread. DSchema extremely knowledgeable and has great advice ... always!

Don't just look at the Skookum for errors... you can go in a look at how many signal fades you have on each SAT. If the fades are around 50 or less per SAT, you're good to go.
Then you might have a SAT wire issue where it cuts one off completely for some period of time. You would have to wait for a flight that gets the error to see if that is what is happening.
