I'm getting ready to purchase a VBar Control radio.

I currently have 5 Trex helis with mini vbars on them.

Will the included RX Satellite replace the current spektrum satellites installed on my mini vbars?

If so, then I have to purchase an additional RX Satellite for each heli?

In a word, yes.

Only vbar sats can talk to the vcontrol. The sat will plug in to that wide 4-pin hole on top of the mini-vbar. So, make sure you have space to run that wire.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Cudaboy,

Thanks for the quick reply, but ouch!

That's going to add quite a bit to the price!

But, I'm told it's a great radio, so I'm going to bite the bullet.

In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.

I was in the same boat this past January. The worst part was I decided to try the rescue feature to see how I liked it. Unfortunately, (for me anyway) that's not something you can have on some helis and not others. So, I ended up upgrading EVERYTHING to new NEOs with Pro/Rescue. Talk about straining the 'ol bank account

if it ain't broke, break it.

Cudaboy, just curious about your experience with the rescue function. I've gone the same route as you, with the exception that I haven't installed rescue on any of my birds.

I am thinking that with the rescue, it will work fine as long as it is a planned maneuver. My concern is on the event where I NEED it, will I have time to realize that and enable it. My fear is that I will not recognize that I will need it in time to use it.

Have you ever had a no-s&*t event where it has saved your heli?

That is why you practice with it...purposefully. That way when you need it, it is an instinct. Works great no matter the orientation...

And yes, had an event that saved my Heli....my nerves were shot but the Heli was all good

ok, order placed.

Once I get the radio, will it read and incorporate my existing vbar setup into the radio, or will i have to go thru the setup procedure for each heli again?

I've watched a couple of videos on model setup, and they all show setting up the governor.

Do you HAVE to use the governor function? I've never used it before, and for just easy sport flying, not sure if I really need it.

Save you file to your PC, then when you get VControl, you can just input the numbers from the screen. The 5.3 setup is not transferable but it goes really quick with VControl, especially since you have it setup on vbar now.
You don't have to use the VBAR Gov if you don't want to.
Go to my YouTube channel (Laughingstill), there are 8 videos that cover it all. Of course you can call MikadoUSA tech support or pm me here if you need help....Ron

I've been flying rescue all year on my Protos MAX. I figured out very quickly that my flying was distracted on my other two helis without rescue. The whole flight I'm just thinking "don't hit rescue on this one, T/H and try to save"...And, I don't crash that often. Maybe once or twice a year and usually due to mechanical failure. That was not a level of stress that was helping my sanity.

So, my choice was either disable rescue on the one I had or fully commit. I chose the latter. I had my whole fleet converted to Neo/rescue by April.

Now, I've been flying helis since '04. That's 15 years of muscle memory dedicated to hitting T/H in OHS***T moments. It hasn't been an easy transition for me. I've tried to practice it. I use it at least once every flight and it works fine.

BUT (there's always a but) the only time I needed it I rekitted the heli. And, I'm very confident the damage would have been much less if I'd just tried to auto down. What happened was I was about 20' AGL and brain farted a maneuver. Normally I'd just hit T/H and try to minimize damage. But, my brain raced...NO you have rescue..hit it. But, I paused. By the time I hit it the heli was already in the dirt. It went in full tilt. Never hit T/H until the blade parts had already come back down to rest. It was ugly.

However, just today I had a chance to use it again. I was still about 50' up..so, a little more time to un-think my overthinking. The same thing happened. I got a little out of shape. I'm 90% confident I could have saved it. But, I wanted to get in the habit of hitting rescue. I ended up pulling T/H and rescue at the same time. But, not too much time elapsed and I got the motor back up to speed; and the heli was already in a nice hover at this point due to the rescue.

So, did it work today? Yes. Would it have worked at 20'...probably would have been a rekit again. In short: If you've been flying for 10 years or so, expect a steep learning curve in retraining your fingers. The radio and function works fine. But, using it correctly and in time has been a challenge for me.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Height is not an issue, when you imitate rescue it automatically starts to climb whether inverted or right side up so it will stop the fall and go to right side up. I have tested it inches off the deck and it works well...
