14t/118t = 8.42 is that right? I'm looking for low head speed on a 270rc gasser which is going in to a scale body, I'm trying for 1500rpm or a little lower.

Yup, that's right. So your engine RPM will be 12,640. Is it modified or stock? If it is stock, you may want to have it balanced to decrease vibes.

I like the ratio, you could go lower with the HS if you want and still have reasonable RPM's for the engine.

I had to go with a 14t/115t,that give me 8.21 ratio with a engine rpm around 12,315 with a head speed of 1500. the gearing on my gasser now 10.25 ratio with 800mm blades, do you think the 8.21 ratio will work? the mechanics is a Trex 700 helibug stretch to 800 size.

Yes, slowing down the stock engine by 300 RPM's should not make a big difference.

Slow it down as much as you can

The slower the better for stock engines due to vibes, will be smoother slower.
