I'm unsure how to set up my Hirobo Shuttle 2+ and radio (Eclipse 7 Pro) regarding the dual rates and Expo settings. Currently I have the dual rates set at 75% and 100%, but I'm not sure what to do with the Expo for Aileron, elevator and rudder.

I have the throttle and pitch curves correct according to the manual and I'll verify the head speed as soon as I can get it started and see what the optical RPM sensor reads.

It may not be relevant but it has the SWM conversion, and an OS.37, wood blades. The radio has 4 flight modes,(Normal, ST1, ST2, and ST3 for Auto-rotations)

Start around 25 to 30 percent, adjust to personal preference

Thanks very much for your reply.

Just to confirm, +25% expo on all three channels? My Hitec manual describes positive expo as "the servos being very sensitive around neutral but softer at extremes" This would give a more responsive/sporty control feel, correct?

I'm sorry, I know this is all really fundamental but I have not set up a helicopter in about 10 years and I've had two kids since then.

I just want to make sure I use the right kind of expo. Negative sounds like it would be to set up really soft controls on a trainer.

Do I have the right idea?

Then yes, you want negative numbers to achieve the "soft" feel around center you are looking for.....

That can be tested on the bench to confirm without the motor running....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

So I want -25% negative expo as a starting point for an acrobatic flight mode?

I'm very comfortable with how Real Flight 6.5 is set up when using the dual rates. Do they have expo built into that?

just try it with -25, thats a safe number thats neither touchy nor mushy, then experiment to find out what works for you

I learned something

Wow, didn't know people even use expo on a Shuttle??? Flew Shuttles years ago and don't see why you need expo on any of the cyclic controls, that thing is slow enough as it is.....

I flew a Trex 500 not to long ago and it was FBL too and the guy had expo dialed in, I do not like the feel of expo at all, so fly it like it is, then maybe add some expo if needed but I think you will find you don't need it. Just my opinion on this, hope you don't mind.....
