well at flight 95 it happened ,
tail spindle bolt let go .. I was about '25 up when I heard a thud /crack, and the next thing I know my helis doing a death piro flip!

I got this! I hit TH , leveled her off , and saved her ,,, no damage to anything but failed tail componets ,,

ive seen this happen on a 600x but the main blade spindle bolt,
i did notice about a few flight prior that the tail grip seemed to have just a tiny tiny tiny bit of play , i checked the tightness of the spindle bolts and they were fine so i flew,,

so its possible that i over tightend the bold and stressed it , or it could be low grade bolts, but 95 3d flights you think it would have happened between flights 1- 40 maybe?

Nice save, and at least a relatively quick and easy repair to get back in the air. Over the years I've had two main head spindle bolt failures, both times on a Gaui 200. No saving from that, just hot TH and enjoy the crash.

thanks , yea I'm glad I landed her like a boss
my bearing on the grip that flew off is shot , the shield is missing and I think a ball is as well ,
I'm thinking of just getting a trex tail and being done with it ,
just cause I don't want to order parts from china and wait 2 or 3 weeks to get back in the air,

good save,

ever touch tail on ground in the past?, had removed the screw a few times before?, experienced any vibe problems? made certain hub is not bent by putting both grips and blades on then rolling the center part around and see if the blades flutter like as if you would the main spindle? A cheap quality screw head will do that if over tightened, loosened, and tightened again and in the presence of vibes which naturally the tail experiences (the loud buzz of the blades in operation). Seems everyone's stepping up to 12.5 grade screws for rc helis, ridiculous sort of because high tensile will hold to a certain point then snap off, shear, completely rather than bend and stay attached.

From the post about preflight your heli does have a tail vibe in it, the constantly loosening grab screw and now this reveal a deeper issue I believe. A vibe in/through the main may becoming accentuated in the parts furthest from the source similar to how a whip acts when a frequency has no where to go. Is the tail real noisy in flight? (honestly the tail buzz of most rc helis is unnecessary and not good because of vibes and can be eliminated with a few unknown techniques)

Is it possible your main gear(s) is out of round? stock?

I see a little impact damage on the control rod and boom.

ive had 38 flight since I replace the set screw and didn't have issues since , again , I don't think I have a tail vibe because my tail fin wasn't moving at all in a hover.

I did however land on gravel once and that nicked a tail blade,,
I applied CA glue and made sure the blades weighed the same , slapped em on and were fine for over 62 flights?

but as I recall , after that happened , the one tail grip always had a slight amount of play in it, so I think maybe between the tail touching once , and me torq'in the hell out of them two bolts , I'm sure I stressed it lol

the tail was quiet , no flutter sounds or odd ball sounds , and again , the tail fin didn't shake at all in a hover , and I never had tail problems in hurricains or funnels or hard punch outs

stressed it? and sometimes you get a bad bolt plain and simple, over tightening just brings out the failure sooner. Yes the small amount of play increased after touching the tail would have started a process.

Now these are all things you learn to observe on a beater 450 after crashing and trashing it over many times like a well loved beat up toy, making sure to go over the larger helis with heavier items being reminded of what used to happen on the small thing. They aren't built like tanks, lol.

A friend of mine owns an assault 700. I heard of the swash plate link arms failing but thought it wouldn't happen to him until one day it did. Luckly he was just in a hover and so tipped over uncontrollably without much damage. If you haven't done so I would change the swash plate for the align one.

Icanfly- if it was a defective bolt , don't you think the failure would happen between flight 1-and like 40 ? not all but 100 flights?
if your saying yes , than that's one hell of a defective bolt lol

its like electronics, theres a test point in which after soo much time ran , if nothing fails , its passed as good to go,

so lets say after 15 flights , a servo has passed its "grace period" and can be trusted more,,

don't belive me? look at high end car makers,, they do this test before any car leaves the factory ,, because after so many hours on the engine and drivetrain , its pushed along as good to go

It's not a problem until it's become a problem ... Plan to expect more "surprises".

Remember your issue with the tail rotor hub set screw coming loose? Well ... It made its way somewhere else and it's enough to shear the bolt.Did it break closer to the socket head?

You've had more tail issues then I suspect anyone else here. There is a problem somewhere in that heli! Be it in the builder or the materials has yet to be determined.

no it broke on the threads. so metal fatigue id guess?

the tail set screw I chalked up to it being no good , cuz as I said , once I replaced it , it was not a problem again, so I don't know why we are revisiting that road , but none the less.

ive had the most tail issues>?

umm can you explain? because after I tightend my 4 boom case bolts all the way down and replaced the set screw , I was fine?(more than 60 some flights?)

they only kept being problems because I was troubleshooting
and one I changed \found the cause , the problems were nomore?

I bet I beat on this heli more than most as well -ant mb- , so I'm hoping for something to fail , because as I recall , a lot of people said this couldn't do 3d ,it was a death trap.and so on, ..well I had 94 flights,, and not sunday flyer type either , so yea id say this heli is good,
its got flaws like any other heli, like sab with the nitro owb.
my $220 helicopter owb is just fine,, unlike the $1200 sab owb,, just throwing that out there , and got a lot less than 94 fligths out of it.

so again id say this heli is a decent heli for the price

OK BOSS! I'm not knocking your heli at all, in fact when you posted your video of it I looked into buying it, and am still considering it. I was just stating that you have had a lot of tail issues. No disrespect or knocking of your heli was meant.

fyi , i looked on ebay for the garret motor (same thing) and you can get one for i think $65 -$79 bucks i think? and its the same as trexs 700mx or 750mx i forget
