I thought I would start another tunng thread as the old one is now stale and a bit off topic,
i'm trying to tune my gaui x3 for tik toks, I have stretched it to run 380 mm blades, and running the x nova 1580 kv motor. I am running 68mm tail blades with the speed up pulley , the tail hold ok but in fast forward flight piro's don't have a consistent speed , there is some whipping. but in tik toks it looks like the tail is doing figure of eights ,
I am trying to concentrate on the tail to see exactly what it doing as i'm not sure if its the tail or the head that is moving , that is something that I will have to try and find out before I can move on (i'm sure) i'm also thinking that the tail of the x3 just isn't strong enough to cope with the headspeed that i'm running (2900)and I may have to go up a pinion size , I am just a little lost right now and not sure which direction to proceed in .
I have a cgy in my 2 other heli's and they don't have the problem that I am having with this little heli, so any suggestions for a direction to try will be greatly appreciated

Tail linkage setup smooth and bind free?

How much tail gain are you running? Have you found the max and back it off a bit?

Does the tail hold in straight up climb outs and descents? Both upright and inverted?

Is the gov working and maintaining rpm? May need slight gain tweak

Have you tuned the tail ff mix? It should only be added after the max tail gain is set and gov is optimized?

Up in pinion size will increase your headspeed

#1 tail linkage is smooth as butter
#2 tail gain is as much as I can get minus 2 clicks but I feel it a low in comparison to my other heli's
#3 there is a very slight kick in upright and inverted punchouts
#4 gov is good
#5 haven't touched the feed forward, I have tried that in the past and it caused more problems
I thought about going up a pinion size I do have a 12t but wasn't sure if the motor would be able to handle it swinging the larger blades.

I am going to check tomorrow to see if it is actually the tail or if its the head that's wobbling

I tried the 12t pinion this morning with a headspeed of 3000 rpm , and while it is a whole lot better and hardly noticeable it is still there , but now I can see a small wag with the tail , and I mean small, with the change in collective, I did try to concentrate on using the least amount of collective possible and it is definitely better , however my tail gain is now at 25 , so stops are a bit mushy, if I remember correctly I can tune how aggressive the stops are , but is 25 too low ? should I be looking elsewhere before adjusting the stops?

Tail is not going to hold well with gain that low. How much will it tolerate without a wag? Stops, especially RIGHT rudder stops, will be imprecise with gain set too low.

I agree with you that rudder FF sometimes creates more issues than it helps, but you might gain benefit from using a bit of ACC mix in the RUD expert menu.

it will tolerate more except on anything sideways( funnels and sideways loops) then it wags quite hard . right now i'm into learning piro'ing stuff and i'm noticing that it is not consistent , which is very annoying as the other 2 bigger heli's are very consistent , so i'm sure its my setup. I will try the acc mix and see if that helps with tik toks etc .
thanks for the advice , will report tomorrow

ok I think I cracked it, I started by giving very gentle collective punchouts and adjusted the ff until it went up cleanly but accelerating slowly , this turned out to be 9% then I started to get more aggressive with it and adjusted the acc mix to stop the kick this turned out to be 10% ( high I know but it works) then I tried tik toks and they are now perfect. I still get a slight kick going from full positive to full negative in a punchout(pogo) but as I never fly like that i'm not bothered , thanks for the direction

10% is reasonable. I use that on my models. ANY electric will kick the tail a little with really, really aggressive collective. Too much power hitting all at once is too much for any gyro to completely lock down.

I would like to formally apologize to dr ben for all the frustration I may have caused, I think I found my head wobble problem , one of the main blade control arms was a tiny bit loose, maybe an 1/8th of a turn but enough so that if twisted with a little force it would move, I obviously took the head apart and completely cleaned and rebuilt it and now all the wobbles are gone,
thank you for your time and patience , sorry to have been a pest

last question , promise , I have a little bit of tail whipping when flying in fast forward flight and hitting left rudder , could this be lack of tail control (I feel like the x3 suffers from this when its stretched)or could it be tuning?

ps running the 12t pinion , speed up tail gear and 68mm zeal blades, (2 sets of lynx blades destroyed themselves)

How much gain does it tolerate in aerobatics? What radius tail servo arm?

very low , 32% if I go up 2 clicks I get buzzing in a funnel, the pushrod is connected at about 8mm from the centre hole of the servo .
