The gasser I just brought when Rototerrier was showing the vbar setup one of the 8717's for the aileron started making a squealing/squeaking noise That he had never heard before he said I should send it to horizon and have them check it out before I fly it.. Just wondering if anyone has had any of these noises before? But when pressure was applied to the arm it had all the power to move without binding or slipping..

This noise is usually caused by the motor bearings drying out. May also be caused by the rest of the gear train needing some lube. On some servos you can get to the top and bottom motor bearings. A tiny tiny drop of oil on each motor bearing will fix this. This will of course void your warranty and may result in your heli running amuck and killing the pilot or spectators.

I had three BLS254 servos do this very thing. Unfortunately you cannot get to the bottom bearing since it is under the circuit board. I don't think I will live long enough to see ball bearing servo motors even though the prices are up to $250 !

I've removed all my cyclic servo's Jr Ds8717's. Sent them back to Horizon hobby to be checked out. Too much money in this gasser to see a servo go out during flight.. Should know something next week sometime...

well bad new on servos

All servos have loose bearings. and the one making the noises the motor is bad. one has gears with a missing tooth.. Really scary buying used helis and now going to cost me 190.00 to get them repaired for parts labor and shipping back to me.

Do not use Jr. 8717 servos in gassers

They do not last, been there done that.

Fix them and put them in an electric Heli or sell them and buy gasser grade servos.

What do you consider gasser grade servos ? What makes a servo gasser grade ?

Futaba BLS

272 for cyclic and 276 for tail.

Used to be 255 and 256, if you can find those they work well also. Guaranteed to last over 1000 flights, the ones in my Whiplash are original never serviced.

Yes of course. But you could turn the JR programmable servos into gasser servos.

SBus Programmable Defaults

Dead Band Degree: 0.20
Damper Factor: 96
Stretcher Gain: 1
Boost: 5
Neutral Offset Degree: 0
Travel Adjust Percentage: 100%
Reverse (Normal/Reverse): Nor
Stop Mode (Free/Hold): Hold
Buzzer (On/Off): Off
Smoother (On/Off): On
Boost (On/Off): Off
Soft Start: 3.0

But these won't translate directly into anyone else's programming parameters. Futaba knows more about servos than everyone else put together.

It's not about programming or specs

It's about longevity...

At the end of the day they all work, I just found some that last way longer than others.

There are reasons that some servos last longer. I remember aluminum gears. I remember the Hitec cheapest motors they could find. Karbonite gears ?

Wait a moment!

You mean doing software arrangement to convert a servo to gasser servo?

With plenty of vibes, we need strong gears instead...

Jr 8717 servos

Been emailing the tech support at Jr Americas for a few days back and forth about the low flight time and major repairs I had just done.

After all was said and done. The JR DS8717 servos are only a 600 size helicopter servo. So they said the heli being a 700 size is the reason for the early failure. So I need to use NX8925 or NXB8925. For 700-800 helicopters.
