Old original TREX 500 I'm going to put back in service mainly for a trainer for my son.
I have the AR610 but it claims to be a 'sport' rx.

Is this adequate for this heli? I have flown futaba for over a decade and am not familiar with Spectrum good and bad.

The AR610 has built in antenna diversity and is full range, so I think you will be fine.

After binding and fussing around to set up the tx/rx in the software, I'm going to just use two sats instead.
That's what I'm used to with one sat on the micro brain and my 180, plus it will be a cleaner install.

2x sats should work fine but you may also want to consider a single Lemon rc dsmx diversity satellite (ones with 2 long antennas). This sat's antennas are both 'active' unlike standard sats that have one ground and one active. With a diversity sat you will get the same diversity advantage as 2x standard sats (and same full range btw).

Makes for even a simpler/cheaper installation (~$15) imho. I use these sats on lots of my rc toys (heli's, planes, drones) and they work great.

Cheers,
TomC

Trainer

Or you could stick with what has been reliable and you know how to use, never can go wrong with futaba

I agree I do like the futaba, but wanted the sbus that I don't have.

I had 2 sats and the other rx already. I do like the cleaner install the sats provide, as well I have been monkeying around with my DX9 and swapped the long toggles for spring loaded ones. this allows me to use these switches as trainers and bailout (but that takes some getting used to for an old dog.)

I even found voice commands that tell me I've flipped the proper switch!

But heck no I'm not leaving Futaba.
