Using a 2009 macbook pro with 10.11.5 El Capitan software.

The usb port appears to be unresponsive. When I start the 5.3 v-bar software is tell me the port is unavailable.

I have attempted to remove old drivers and reinstall new. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the user interface software.

My goal is to load v-plane.

Quoted from Vstabi.info

Apple MAC
VStabi for MAC

2015 (v5.3, v6.1)

The VBar-Software is running on recent and current Apple Macintosh Computers. You find the download links on the VBar-Homepage. By default, the latest software (corresponding to the latest PC-Software) is available.

The following versions of OS X have been tested: Mac OS X 10.4.11-10.11.1 on MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, that's where the serial driver library has been developed on), iMac 24“ (Mid 2007), MacBook Air (2011), MacBook Air (2013).

10.3 might work, 10.2 on G4 Macs doesn't, sorry. We appreciate any further info on what works and what doesn't.

The installation is typically Mac – unzip and open the DMG volume, then copy the VBar-Folder to your /Applications directory. That's it.

There you find some apps brandishing the red V.

VStabi – the regular App for use with Express and Standard software
VStabi Bluetooth – the App for use with a Bluetooth module to connect to your VBar
VStabi Simulation – the App for playing around with the software without having a device connected

or, for version 6.1

VBar NEO – the regular App for use with Express and Pro/Pro+Rescue
VBar Control Manager – needed for updates and registration

... and the latest driver – a driver that will connect to ANY VBar, no matter how it's set up.
Those who install it for the first time won't have to do anything but install it.
Those who already have an older version will possibly have to make a safe system start once, to clear the driver caches.
This driver can be used with v4, too!

Important notice on driver installation:

With OS X it can be necessary to delete the old driver manually, then do a safe system-start, then install the new driver.
Here's how:

1. Browse to /System/Library/Extensions in Finder
2. Locate the two files/folders (drivers) named SiLabsUSBDriver.kext and SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext, delete them (need admin-password).
3. Make a safe system-start. Hold the left shift key while booting, until the progress bar shows. After completion, reboot normally.
4. Install the new driver.

Important notice on start-up sequence:

1. Connect the USB lead to your Mac (no other device such as BT, CP allowed at the same time)
2. Start up software
3. Turn on your radio, your heli, wait for the init
4. When you disconnect your VBar from your Mac, quit the software. Start again when needed.

Perhaps my computer software update to 10.11.5 is the problem. If so, I am screwed.

With 5.3 you have to open the software then power the vbar up.
Also with the newest MAC OS, it does not come with Java Runtime Environment installed. Even if you have the latest Java, that will not have JRE. It is a free download from Apple. Install that, restart, all should be good.

Ron,

I've downloaded and installed the Java Environment as you directed. I then uninstalled the v-bar drivers and reinstalled them. I have power cycled the computer accordingly.

Still no love.

I've watched the videos for recovering and uploading software to a mini-bar. I noticed no bind plugs used anywhere in the processes.

Don't know what else I could be missing.

The rx I plan to use was bound to a vcontrol and a different mini. I can connect to the v control.

I cannot get the v control software to see the mini. It won't show the mini or serial number.

The VControl software is only for the NEO and Control. The Mini uses the 5.3 software to load 6.0 and then only connects to Vcontrol. Are you having issues to get it connected to 5.3?

I have attempted to download and install the following onto a different Mac computer that I own...

Java Runtime Environment
V-bar usb drivers
V-bar 5.3 software

I still cannot connect. It tells me port not available. The usb cable and V-bar do not show up. Then when I power up the V-bar there is no connection.

1. Connect usb cord and mini-v-bar without power.
2. Start the 5.3 software.
3. Power up the V-bar with a battery.

I had the exact same problem with a Mac. It had nothing to do with Java or drivers.

I am trying to find the thread about the issue I had. I believe I had to delete the UART in the com port box. I will keep searching for the post I made.

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Here is the fix I found for my issue, I found it on the vstabi forum.

You can delete (Entfernen) the two COM ports, and add (Hinzufügen ...) /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART by copying it into the upper right box (replace COM).

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Following suggestions on the vstabi forum found here:

http://www.vstabi.info/en/forum

My computer shows
V-bar in the system usb report, but I cannot get the v-bar software to read or recognize the mini-bar or even show a connection in the software.

I have tried this on two different macbook pro's in our household, both with different OS X system loaded. Both with the proper Java environment loaded. Both computers have had the drivers manually removed and reloaded multiple times. I have used all the data, cache, usb, and safe loading suggestions.

Still no success.

For future reference, here are some notes and our solution:

The mini v-bar needs to be connected to the usb port of the computer without power to the gyro.

Next, fire up the v5.3 software.

Software does not show connected. Instead, I have a red indicator next to the usb port verifier.

Click the port options tab.

I copied and pasted "/dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART" into the box at the top right corner that normally says "COM". Then click on Hinzufa, or the german word for "add". This will move the "/dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART" into the box on the left side showing it as an optional port. There should be a blue dot next to that port.

Click on the /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART port to highlight it. Hit select at the bottom of the box.

This still will result in the software showing a red icon and Not-connected. THIS IS OK FOR NOW.

With the gyro connected to usb and no power, click on file/upload/and navigate to where the recovery software has been downloaded and start it.

There should be a box pop up and a progress bar.

If the progress bar does not progress, power up the gyro with battery.

Let the recovery software load.

Close out of there and go to file/online update.

Wait for the software options and serial number to show.

Select the software you want to use (in this case I wanted v-plane). I clicked it and asked it to update. The update failed.

Go the the Vstabi.info site and log into account.

Go to my devices and administration.

Find the serial number listed within my devices.

Click the information icon to see the software history.

Click on the little icon that looks like a globe. This will allow a request to email to be submitted to get the license for the V-plane.

Go to email and click on the link sent by mikado. This will activate V-plane software for that serial number.

Return to V5.3 software to attempt online update again.

Software should load.

Now, connect V-control rx and bind to transmitter.

After bound, V-plane will load into the Tx and allow a new plane set up wizard to be started.
