Haven't touched a heli or plane in about 3 years when suddenly my ole flyin Pal Ken calls and says Hey, I'm throwing all this stuff away---you want ?I says--- Well, don't throw it away I'll take a gander at it. Long story short he brought over a huge box of parts and spent the next 7 hours building a Trex 4fitty, it was like ridin a bike. Seems like the current market is loaded with drones Anyone come back after a long hiatus ?

On my way back

I'm just getting back into the hobby. My life fell apart due to a number of reasons. Ultimately I had to make a choice to get myself together.
So I put the helicopters away for a while. I did get into film making and that included using drones but I always missed flying helis.
Just last week I dropped off 3 of my helis at the shop to be given a thorough once over by a pro mechanic. I hope to get them back next week and get back up in the air.
I just bought a used blade 180 cfx and I have a Gaui NX4 and a Whiplash gasser that I never got sorted out that I need to complete.
I am looking forward to getting back in the air. In the mean time, I am flying my sim everyday.

Welcome back guys..not much has changed....helis go up helis come down......you just have to watch out for little quads ripping around without regard for air space....they want to fly thru and around everything....and watch it on tv while doing it. The only thing missing is the recliner......and i bet that isnt far off.

Room for all in the air

While there are many that get in the air too quickly and lacking etiquette do to the simplicity that multi-rotor technology provides, I try not to paint with too broad a brush.
For film making my DJI Phantom 3 is hard to beat for the price and I exercise due caution when operating. Sadly some do not but they are not the overwhelming majority.
Regular helis are more challenging and flying them is a zen like exercise for me. As someone living in recovery, it is important for me to be mindful and stay in the present. This is what I love about about flying helis, they require me to be in the exact moment.
I am going to start incorporating FBL units with rescue modes to help prevent expensive crashes, which some may see as cheating, but I intend to have those functions on a momentary switch to just snap to level.
I am just glad to be getting back in the air. The people in this hobby are awesome and I haven't found any other hobby where people are so willing to help one another.

Got a little chuckle out of this, considering it's what the planker guys have been saying about helis for years. Seems the same gripes still hold true. Only difference is the needle shifted a little and now the heli pilots have someone to complain about.

Pot calling the kettle black comes to mind.

If the pot and the kettle are black how is that an issue....its a fact. Dumb heli pilots are out there too....as are dumb planker too...nobody is immune.

Hello Gregor99, ^ It's been awhile, I remember you posting the most detailed and clear pictures on the Esky forum, not to mention the "Spock-like" highly intelligent brain Hope all is well with you, are you still flying any "air-machines" ?

I still have several airworthy models, but don't get a lot of free time to get to the field. I fired up the sim last week for a first time in a while.

Have read that statement many times over the last several months, but the
only thing w. it.....the helis never brought on to the plankers, all the
major attention and scrutiny that the quads have to all of us.

Thats all, sorry for the off-topic

BTW, went to mini-sprint races last night, they had a fairly large quad
covering the event all night long, all over the place, bleachers, pits, and
even the track itself. None of the crowd ever booed it or said anything as
far as I could tell, but also NOone applauded at all either, when the pilots/company was announced any of the two-three times.

Yep, if anything major has changed, it is pretty much that, but welcome back to the 'real' world of helis

Thanks gologo, I'm gettin bit by the "Heli-Bug" again ! Stopped in at a new Hobby shop near-by aaaaand-----weeeeeeelll, walked out with this little bugger, The Blade Nano CPS I do remember the Nano from years back but this one has 3 different flight modes, supposedly one mode attempts to level out the heli if you get into trouble. I would rather just hit trottle-hold and let it land gently on the grass. Grounded it 3 or 4 times with absolutely no Damage I'm used to "Heli-Carnage" with the Bigger boys ! It's all in Good Fun
