hi

I have a set of dominator v2 and the battery is pretty much useless so I ordered a new one, the 1800mah with the led display.

the new battery has stickers saying to Not balance charge, I have always balanced my old battery.

am I right in thinking this new battery must have some sort of internal balancing circuit much like my DX9?

my other problem is, does this mean I have to buy a constant voltage charger? or can I use my pl8? if I can what setting do I use?

as you can tell I am very confused !

thanks for any input.

The cells have quite high IR's, and in some cases and especially if you go much over 0.5c, some chargers don't do well. Mine balance charge fine, but I keep the rate under 0.5c. They may very well have internal circuitry, but it makes me uneasy not knowing what each cell is doing.

If you charge at a typical 1c, the voltage the charger sees quickly goes to well over 4v/cell, and the charger will shut off way before the pack is fully charged. Go slow and they charge fine and balance out acceptably.

The one thing that I have always done is to read and follow the directions.

You can charge without balance charging straight into the connector. I have no idea of the battery that you are using... but I do as the manufacturer requests, there has to be a reason. I would use a low charge rate. 0.5amp to start.

I looked at the replacement battery... it has a charge indicator. It also comes with a charge adapter w/banana plugs. I would use what is specified for the battery.

I totally agree with following the manufacturer instructions, but that is where the confusion comes from.

the small leaflet that comes with the battery says

" Battery has a balance lead for charging off standard RC type chargers and can simultaneously power the fan equipped face plate."

but then the battery has a label saying

"read warning before use do not balance charge"

just found this
Battery Charging:

The lithium polymer battery pack is equipped with a 3 pole balance charger lead that allows the battery to be charged off standard RC battery pack chargers (not included). Follow your charger instructions for setting up for 7.4V, 1800mAh Li-Po. Some chargers require the discharge cable to be connected. Use the enclosed discharge lead adapter for these types of chargers. Note (1): If the charger fails to announce charge complete, but is showing battery voltage at 8.4V, the charge can be considered finished.

DO NOT LEAVE BATTERY ATTACHED TO CHARGER WHEN CHARGER IS NOT PLUGGED IN.

DO NOT BALANCE CHARGE.

Note (2): If battery becomes fully discharged or shorted an internal safety circuit will trip. To reset the battery, tap 9V direct to the barrel connector via the discharge adapter cable’s banana connector. This will instantly reset the battery and it can be recharged as normal.

This is a case where a picture would be worth a thousand words.

There are some battery chargers for beginners that only charge through the balance port and not the main leads. These are like seen at the following:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/product...harger-dync0505

Other more expensive chargers charge through the discharge cable and balance lead. It is possible to connect the battery leads and do a straight charge without connecting the port and doing a straight charge. There are settings on many chargers for that purpose. I would not fast charge (>1c) the battery until you know what you are doing. I think that the reason they don't want you to charge through the balance lead and discharge lead at the same time is that it will harm the voltage display on the battery.

I don't get it, our fatsharks came with a wall wort charger. Plug it into wall, plug the battery in and wait. I certainly agree that a better description would be nice. Maybe a call or email to the supplier?

Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

does anyone else have a problem with the "internal circuitry" draining the pack between uses? Every time I go to give someone that set of glasses to use the battery is dead
