That ALMOST could be my car!!! I actually had to look close that it wasn't.

I also at the same time owned a 69 Z28 in metallic green with pearl white stripes that I installed a 427.

That brings back memories 1982

BTW the new Camero is an abomination.

I had a couple of those in highschool. (1967 and 1969.) Just 327s and 4 speed, Headers, edelbrock, a little cam, Holey dubble pumpers... It was a blast.

Ive been looking at the new 2016 SS.

That's putting it nicely,.
Back in '08 ish when the new Camaro was realy coming back I told me wife "NO MATTER WHAT I AM GETTING ONE". YA then I drove one when they hit the floor. I tried so very hard to find the "good" in the car. Needless to say I never bought one and even with the latest 6th gen still can't find a reason to buy one.
I do miss my '68 sob why did I sell that car.

I havent taken one for a spin yet, but i am suprised folks would prefer the older one. I had fun with mine but i dont recalll them handling well.

Motor trend gives the new ones a 5 out of 5.

Except for the small back seat not like the minivan kid taxi their wife insists on, and the cigarete lighter cover wasn't pretty enough for them, these guys liked it too...

My 69 had a radio with real FM! Yea baby. That squishy floating half-frame set up was, um, unique. I loved the wheel bounce when ever i hit the gas. The lumpy rubber dash peeling back all around the edges and the rear window regulators jamming up gave it personality! The flat bucket seats were perfectly matched to the very non-flat handling ... Real 4 wheel drum breaks! Wow! So long as you don't hit the gas, drive in the rain, or expect much, the 69 was great!

I guess I should have stated mine was not quite stock..... Ya, Really only stock parts on my '68 was most of the sheet metal. So it drove much nicer then alot if what could be driven new today.
As far as the camaro getting 5 of 5 stars, I would say the same if I received as much money as motor trend gets from the manufacturer.

My wife is a Mustang lover and she had a 67 in high school, we had the opportunity to purchase a very clean 65. That only lasted about 6 months, it drove like a forklift! It made me remember the saying 'You can't go home' and sometimes the memories, are best left in the memory banks...

Ahhhh.... Mom's Cornbread and Chilly, a slightly pumped up camaro, a very sweet young girl, an easy part time job in a lighting shop.

Those memories are priceless and irreplaceable.

Today is good too. I put in a new fancy toilet valve!

I had>

a 68 Camaro SS Red Black Stripes

a 68 Nova Green

A 71 Nova SS Brown/Black vinyl roof

they were all hopped up, but the 71 Nova was really fast as far as Muscle Cars go, it had a 327, the guy that help me build the engine drag raced, it would blow a way my brothers 71 LT1 Z28 350 rated at 370 HP, my best friend had the 69 Mach 1 Cobra Jet 428 Mustang, as a car sold new in Vermont the door sticker HP rating was 370, he could get me off the launch but I would pass him in 2nd,, my friend bough that Mach 1 for only $750 LOL,, he put a Rod threw the block out on the Hi Way pushing 130, I kept telling him not to over Rev that big block,

LOL one day I was at my other brothers house, this was 1979, his friend was there and my brother ask me to put down some rubber, I put down 92Ft in first and 35Ft in 2nd, we measured it the next day, 2 days later my brother told me that the guy across the street told him that he would not let me keep doing that, I ask my broth who the he11 is he, my brother said>>>>> he is a cop LOL,, needless to say I never again put down rubber at my brothers house

I've always been a GM man but when the wife wanted a new "sporty car" last year .... and we drove a new Camaro. Then we drove over and bought a new Mustang. At least the windows and seating are high enough and large enough in the Mustang where there is good visibility to see where we are going. They couldn't give me the Camaro and the 16 doesn't look much better.

I do enjoy the classics though especially in restomod form.

Just about literally bought the farm in a 68. Parts where plentiful from the junk yards and cheap - and we had free machine shop access at nite including our own Sioux Valve grinding machine. Built our own flow bench and cc'd the heads including balanced rods.

Friend who owned it worked for the retail speed shop. Popular at the time. Rim's ect. Speed goodies for actual cost + freight - or from the distributor as samples.

All aluminum 427, aluminum heads reworked, aluminum water pump, radiator out of a IH Truck, crane roller rockers, remote oil tank reservoir with cooler, even re-located the batteries to the trunk for weight transfer. If it could be done / we tossed it at the motor.
Pretty cheap if you can imagine - not bad.

Motor swelled up so bad you could only start it once a nite and we ran headers that had remote gates we could open. Those are fun.

Even the Jugs where special. We paid $28.00 each for slippers with the perfect circle ring set up we wanted. If I remember we had chrome wipers on the second compression ring, and the skirts where knurled for oil.

It was nutt's fun - Especially with retread snow tires and a line lock set up at the burger joint - The tires where deafing !!! Went thru two sets before we dropped the oil to check it for swarf.

Ran Ethel maybe 6 -8 miles per gallon and it was cheap ! Dyed Red

With the Auto Meter Shut down tac set and a certified speedometer
we took it to the best flat long stretch of cement we had at nite and decided to let it out for the top end. Known as 141 long and flat and new.

Our chaser was a friend on NORTON motorcycle who was Nutt's for speed.

Took it around 138 to 140 when the tack shut us down and at the same time he blew past us like we where absolutely sitting still.

Come off it at that speed she almost turned turtle - Still don't know how we kept it between the markers. Went into the snake mode - Did Not have it - wasn't made for it - It was bad !!! Chirped all the way back down till it was under control.

Sold the motor for a good profit - recovered costs + next motor budget and put a small block back in it. FUN ? Never AGAIN ! You do NOT Forget the close one's. Didn't have the suspension and TOO Short for the weight on the front end.

Lot better platforms but they where CHEAP !

Oh yes, the helicopter that could have been .... but never went into production. Sad

Lets see, why should we buy that one when we can buy something less capable, costs more and is difficult to keep maintained and ready for service. Hmmmmm, sounds like the F-35 project.
