I'm currently buying everything to put together a Hornet II. I have a Hitec Eclipse 7 transmitter already, so that is covered but you would need an 120 deg eCCPM radio as ozace said if you don't have one. Here is the list of items I am getting...
Hornet II kit (duh)
Castle Creations Phoenix-10 ESC
Himax 2015-4100 brushless motor
3 x Hitec HS-55 servos
1 x Hitec HS-50 servo
Futaba GY401 gyro
2 x Etec 3S 1200 mAh LiPo packs
10-tooth pinion
11-tooth pinion
Everything on that list came out to almost exactly $600. I did already have a receiver, so that would need to be on your list as well. I have heard rumors that a Berg 6 receiver will soon be out; hopefully in less than a month. That is why Berg 5 receivers are currently not available.
You could keep your costs a little lower by sticking with the stock motor and using NiMh or NiCd packs.
