Rebuilding after my first crash. Since I have a cheap non-heading hold Hitec gyro, I was wondering what a good basic heading hold gyro would be recommended for an upgrade.

I have seen good reports on the Telebee GR701 for under $100. Anybody had good or bad experience with it?

Any others I should be considering? Still learning so I don't need a high performance competition 3D gyro that would cost as much as a new heli.

GY 401

If you have a radio that offers remote gyro gain control get the Futaba GY401. At about $160, it is worth the extra money and it will probably be all the gyro you will ever need.

I've got both the Telebee and GY-401. The GY is a much better gyro in terms of holding accuracy but the Telebee worked very well for me too.

If you're interested, I'd let the Telebee go for $45 shipped.

A GY401 from www.helihut.com or a GY240 if that 401 is too expensive.

Having used both Telebee 701 and GY401 (on a Raptor30) I would recommend staying away from the Telebee, unless you can get one second end for around $45.

The Telebee is not a bad gyro, but not worth $100 IMO. For that amount of money, I'd go with the Futaba GY240. It is IMO a much better choice. Also the peace of mind to fly Futaba. (Telebee has been blamed last year for its poor reliability). It would be sad to crash the heli because of the defective gyro. For that reason only I would pick the GY240 (see it as an insurance...)

If you can afford to spend around $200, then the combo GY401 with 9253 digital servo is really nice. Everyone will praise it.

Hope this helps.

Lots of solid advise given above.

I recently replaced all my Telebee 701 Gyros for 401s.

You also need to consider a better Servo as well.

I have two 3745s, and two 9352s. The speed is .16 and .08.

Too bad I already sold my 701s (3 @25.00 each) (Too cheep I guess, they were gone day 1)
