Re: Eolo vs. Hornet 2, I have flown both. The pilots I saw last week were different, but I know their skills well. The Eolo was also undergoing some changes to power plant, etc... Having flown both though, I can tell you the H2 is crisper in 3D although slightly less stable and certainly more prone to external forces (like wind).

The eolo is kind of sluggish in cyclic response in stock form even with a hot brushless setup. I ordered my hornet II from dennis today so I can join the fun!

I am still thinking about the power setup to use, I have a 2025, razor V2, 2015, razor 2500 and razor 400 that I will be testing. I was thinking of trying to scrounge up a hacker to throw into the mix.

I have a feeling I will stick with the Himax, I really like them on my 3d planes in the 10oz range. I think the 2500 would rock but I was a little worried about how much it cogs given the fact that I wont have a oneway.

I will give them all a try and report back

I started my Hornet build tonight. Must say that Dennis is a DAMN faster shipper. I ordered it saturday, got here today! Anyways a gripe I have about this is, my tail hub threads must not be right because I can't get one of the threaded rods in. I've built plenty of Hornet tails and never had this problem, doubt it's common but sucks for me. I'll get the S&S tail since I don't wanna bother with this. Also one of my tail blades is a bit thicker at the root then the other, one pivots nicely and the other is very stiff. I've sanded it down but it's hard to judge if I'm sanding 100% flat.

I posted some pictures of her so far, and in comparison to my Eolo (currently being rebuilt) and my new to me Eco 8.

I also agree with tabbytabb about the Eolo, even with a decent setup it's a bit of a floater. Not really my style since my kicks come from Micro's

Good Price?

Is this a good price for the Hacker motor and controller? I am just getting into electrics and am learning.

Is there another supplier you would recommend?

Good Price?

Thanks,

Jeff

Buzzsaw, that's a good point about the hummingbirds/clones. Those cheap micros have caused an explosion in the number of people getting into this end of the sport, and diverted the attention away from the Hornet. Of course, now I have a bunch of spares that would outfit a hummer quite nicely.

Crasher - do the tail rotor blade holders still have the tight threaded holes on both sides where the 2mm screw goes through the tail rotor blade? I opened up the hole a little on the side of the screw head, this allows for much better tension adjustment on the tail rotor blades. My tail rotor holders are 2+ years old, so maybe MS has addressed that issue already.

I wish it wasnt windy outside, I really wanted to fly today.

The Atlanta heli movie server gets shut down when there is too much traffic. Try this link in the meantime. I used my scale Gallery to post...

Let me know if it works.

Dave,

The grips are still tight on the threaded rods. Just screw them into the grip and give the grip a pinch with some pliers and they should free up. I wouldn't suggest using a knife...well not with my luck

heligoole,

You mean a Piccolo? I had one. Would rather a REAL tail.

I used a 5/64 drill, by hand, on the one side of the grip. If you're standing in back of the heli, just do the left side holes of the tail rotor grips. That leaves threads on the right side holes.

I went ahead and flew 8 minutes out in the cold wind. my fingers are now frozen.

CDRking- I would check out aircraft-world for pricing on brushless motors. I order alot of my stuff from them and they always seem more then reasonable. Ony like 2.50 I think for shipping also. Give them a try and see how the prices compare

Good Luck

The upgrades begin. I'd rather just put a real tail rotor on so I ordered the S&S tail rotor from Dennis and a 12t pinion for the Himax.

I sure hope this tail holds anywhere near Erics.

Hi Eric,

I'm just not happy with the hub, I had to use pliers to screw the threaded rod in because the threads weren't right from MS. So we can safely say mine wouldn't be flying too hot stock...unless I replace it for $10, but why bother with it when I can get something with bearings, quit fussing with the tail.

Btw, I've only heard good things about people upgrading the tail rotor. Do you have anything diffrent to say about any upgrade tail rotor? I know you guys have tried a lot of mods
