How many people do you think fly in the USA in a day.. A lot more than our small little numbers. The FAA will continue to protect those people over model rights.

The reason this has all become an issue is the non-educated model/drone users that continue to do dumb and unsafe acts. Just like any new law, they are all created to protect us from idiots. Usually the perpetrator is not aware of the danger that they are creating or even if they are violating any law.

See example http://nbc4i.com/2016/03/30/pilots-...-port-columbus/

It is not only the non-educated people doing this, it is those who outright refuse to comply with regs and flat out don't care.

There are plenty of YT Idiots posting their vids knowing that their flying is unsafe and against the current regs/guidelines.

In my view, these regs were made more as an "ineffective" deterrent than actual enforceable laws. No one at this point is going to get in trouble unless they do something really dangerous or stupid. There are plenty of idiot flyers who would have had the FAA breathing down their necks by now if the FAA was that concerned about enforcing the regs.

So sad so sad. You think it's the government only who is pointing the cannons. By being so very ignorantly mindless and completely compliant. You are building the governments cannons and loading them to. Just wait until they point those same cannons at you.......

No F...ING way...........
Good Day to you all.

IMHO, rev is the RR enforcer in chief. He just wants to constantly remind us all that big brother is watching everyone of us.

You are correct, the FAA can pass all of the rules they want and until the YouTubers start getting arrested and prosecuted nothing will change....no manpower for enforcement. Almost all of the YouTubers that fly photo quads are so pathetic. They can't fly without the automation or via FPV. It's comical that some of them are even trying to teach the other clueless followers how to fly Phantoms in Atti mode so they can fly in buildings. The comments sections on a lot of these videos are the funniest parts.

The ironic part of the whole FAA scenario is the part that concerning commercial versus hobby. All the YouTubers aspire to having enough subscribers to the point of getting paid by YT. If that's not commercial what is? That aspect alone should offer some enforcement relief. It's not just about being a public service.

Rules/laws have to make sense for people to follow them. If they don't make sense they have to be enforced.

rational vs. emotion

IMHO
what do you know! you got it
who cares if some don't play by the rules, don't care either if they get caught & pay hefty fines because lack of r/c ID, the courts are full of 'customers'

So true.

On another note, the manufacturers often supply the equipment to the youtuber to review, thus showing their lack of concern over the issue.

Several of the youtubers in question are overseas, but we are seeing more and more US youtubers outright violating the regs without an response from the FAA.

I just read the new "rules" to take into affect in August.

"No flying over 100mph" - easily can be exceeded by a 700 electric, are they gonna want you to have to put a airspeed indicator on your models next?

"No night time operations without anti collision lighting" - seriously, a normally lit rc airplane or heli is more brightly lit than any full size, but they want a red/green and strobe on it, lame. Displays more ignorance of those writing this stuff.

"No reckless or careless operations" - Love that vagueness, what is a careless operation? 3D will be banned, hovering only or else!

I've recently registered with the FAA to fly.
The big thing I saw over and over was the word "commercial"

I didn't go through all 50 some odd pages here maybe someone already said this.

It seems this isn't about safety, or terrorism, or anything regarding the public. Advances in our field have made it cheaper and easier to fly than ever before. With satellite functionality some can be flown point and click. I'm thinking that they recognized that the "drone" industry was poised to take work from actual pilots (in the near future),with all the discussions about drone deliveries and agricultural applications. Now I doubt they care about pilots losing jobs per se, but losing a cut of the industry would be a top concern.

The FAA has ALWAYS been hyper-vigilant regarding commercial flying. Nothing has changed and if you want to fly commercial RC aircraft, you will have to comply with the rules.

I don't think the FAA gives a darn about who, just that they are properly licensed and trained for the missions they want to fly.

Before this,
You did not have to be licensed to fly
If you wanted to do aerial photography
Or if you wanted to use a model to advertise something at an airshow

There was licensing and insurance available,
But you didn't have to.
Sure there were ways and places you might have been breaking a law, but now it's a federal crime.

Now you have to be licensed by the FAA if your flying has anything to do with earning money. That's why there was all the concern about pro pilots at the model airshows.
It's so loosely worded that the FAA can step in on that as soon as they want to.

What I'm seeing (because they didn't do that...I don't think) is that they were most concerned with protecting future interests.

If we ever get that 12x battery increase they've been promising just imagine the work a satellite guided quad could do.

They want us imagining the damage they could do because fear will make people agree with anything especially when they don't understand.
