E5 size

Hi,

I was seriously looking at this model but was wondering how big it is? I've seen a couple of pictures of it but still having a hard time grasping the size of it and I don't know of anyone near me with one. I know it'll swing 550 blades and larger if you stretch it. So is it comparable to, lets say a Raptor 30? I haven't seen any of the Trex models up close so those wouldn't do me any good. I need it in old school terms... Ive had a Raptor 30/50, Shuttle, Evo 50 and a Fury Extreme. I've also seen a Goblin 500. Can someone tell me how it sizes up? I'd like to try it but might shy away and go for the E7 if its too small.

Thanks,
Angelo

Well it's bigger than the Goblin 500 and the Trex550.
In comparison I once owned a Furion 6 and frame wise it is pretty close.
If you need actual measurements those can be provided this evening.

Cheers

Angelob,

Depends on what you want to do. The E5 has air presence no matter what. I fly the E5 everyday at the moment 10 flights a day, and have not even began to dial in my E7 yet. Size wise the E5 has the goblin beat. I loved flying the goblin 500 but the comparison is like a mosquito (Goblin) HorseFly(E5) although very small insects, you know when a horse fly is coming. I don't plan on stretching my E5 anytime soon. Ohh and did I mention the convenience factor, Strap one pack in and go fly. Here is a flight video I made yesterday. The E5 is a blast.

E5 is a true 550, a little bit bigger then the T-Rex 550 and bigger then the Goblin 500, but a little bit smaller than a T-Rex 600. If you wish I could take a picture of my E5 beside a T-Rex 550 this week-end.

BigQ,

Nice video - it does look like a decent size heli. If you dont mind me asking, what is your setup as far as motor/gearing? What sort of flight times are you getting with a 6s pack?

Thanks,
Angelo

Thanks angelob,

All questions are welcome. Here is my setup.
Scorpion 4025-1100 with 14T pinion main gear is 119T
castle Edge 120HV running castle gov gain 15%
Gensace 5300Mah 35c 4:00 @2300HS 3D, so depending on your flight style and setup you can easily get 4:30 or more with 30% to spare. Im also running 13 degrees pitch (Which is another factor) These packs are a little heavy, however I do not notice at all.
Gensace 4400Mah 45c 3:00 @2300HS 3D
This is based off my flight style, it really depends on your style and setup.
My idle 2 is at 2450 and I really feel 2300 is the sweet spot. 2450 is for showing off. Lol
The kit is all stock, I just ordered the 14T pinion.

Goodluck on your decision.Hope this helps.

@BigQ951, when your running the 14t pinion on your E5, doesn't your ESC gets hot?

I'm running 12t pinion on my E5 & i feel like I need more power on certain manuvers. I'm at 95% on my throttle curve and feels somewhat in lack of power.

I was thinking putting 13t or 14t pinion but somewhat I fear my esc is going to go in flames!

I haven't tached my heli how much headspeed i'm running at now,but I need to buy a tach & find out soon or later.

Anyhow, have you tried the 13t pinion, instead of 14t pinion? I really like more headspeed on my E5 , but again, I'm just too scared to do it due to the fear of burning up my ESC.

Any thoughts or sugguestion that you, or anyone can suggest would be really greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Rocco,

To answer your question my ESC does not get hot at all. I have run my ESC back to back 4 batteries in a row and I can still hold my hand on it. The motor stays luke warm also. I utilize Mr Mel's head speed calculator to get an estimate on my head speed, and then have someone at the field tach it to be sure. It's usually pretty accurate. I have not had any need to try the 13T. Having someone Tach your heli is important. I would start with asking. What is your setup? Having a proper setup is very important.

What ESC?
What motor?
Are you running throttle curves or governor?

My setup for my E5 ESC & power are,

CC edge120hv w/ pro bec
Scorpion motor 4025-1100kv
12t pinion
TP-70c 4400

I haven't tached it yet. Right now i'm just running fixed point throttle at 95% on my tx.

I was watching your video & it looks like you have plenty of power doing all your manuevers. I want my E5 power somewhat equal like yours. It could be just the pinion i'm running, maybe I'll change it to 14t pinion & see how it goes.

When I bought the kit, it came with two pinion. They were 12t & 13t pinion
I guess the more & more you fly an E5 you crave for more power!

Ok, get the 14T. Set the ESC to fixed endpoints. Set normal 30% 2000, idle 1 70% 2300, idle2 100% 2450. Gov gain 15%. Give it a try.

Thottle curve normal 30% straight

idle1 70% straight

idle2 100% straight

I'm confused?...So do I run my CC 120hv Esc on Gov, or do i setup my vbar on gov aswell? Basically my question is,Do I do both esc & vbar setup on gov, or just the esc?

I got the 14t pinion in hand already & already changed the pinion as mentioned.

On my throttle end points from my tx if I decided to just run it without gov can I set it up as:

Normal @ 0,60,60,60,60
Idle 1 @ 80% (flat curve)
Idle 2 @ 100% (flat curve)

Will the headspeed be almost the same as gov headspeed or just forget the fixed end points and setup everything in gov mode & never look back?
Again, thanks for helping me out to tune my bird out.I really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Ray

Btw- I'm using futaba 8fg tx.

Im running the castle gov, not the vbar gov. You need the castle link to setup the gov on the computer. I would recommend running a governor on this size helicopter, not throttle curves. If you need detailed instructions on castle gov setup, PM me. I will run you through it step by step.

Thanks for the offer BigQ951. I'll pm you if I have any troubles setting up the ESC gov. I'll try the 14t when i get a chance to fly & let you know the outcome.

After putting on the 14t pinion on my E5,6s pks. I find this heli is a beast and want more and more to fly this heli.

I did two test flight today, primary tunning the motor, esc and vbar and I was blown away from the power it produce just by adding the pinion.

However, the motor was hot in each flight and esc warm which I believe it's normal.

I want to thank BigQ951 for helping me out on the gov setup, which turned out pretty easy.

Sorry, the camera on this tablet sucks. I couldn't get a very clear picture, but it shows the size difference of these helis. This is a piture of a Raptor 50 Titan next to a Synergy e5. Raptor Titan is stock except an old G-force head. E5 is stock. The e5 is a pretty good size for a 550 considering the Titan is long enough to fly 620s.

The E5 is a little bigger than the Trex550 with the old boom, but the new Trex550's come with the longer boom, so the new Trex550's are a little bigger than the E5.
I'm sure everyone probly already knew that

Remember to keep everything balanced!
