Has anyone ran 6s battery setup on E5, if so what is your configuration? (ie, motor, esc, servos)

Any advice & info is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Absolutely! I love mine as a 6S set up so much I'm in the process of getting another ready as 6.

Below are what I have and are pretty standard components for a 6S set up:

Scorpion 4025-1100kV motor
Castle ICE or EDGE 120 HV ESC
BLS256 on tail and 255 on cyclic (these are now being updated with newer versions so this combo listed is discontinued now, look for 272's on cyclic if Futaba, otherwise there are many HV choices available)
556mm main blades and 96mm tails
6S 4400 mAH packs 35c discharge or higher, preferably 40C or higher if you fly harder. (In my case I use GensAce, Hyperion, or Glacier, all durable and long lasting packs)
Headspeed governed by the ESC at 2,100 in normal, 2,250 in Idle Up 1 and 2,350 in Idle up 2 putting the Castle ESC at approximately 108% of rated use which is a comfortable and safe place for them.

I am running the 12tooth pinion so that's why I max out my ESC at 2,350 RPM but that makes the motor run cooler and more efficiently as well as the packs drain just right to about 22 to 27% of capacity after a 5 minute flight.

Mine is set up as a 6S, also, and I am definitely keeping it that way. I can't remember the exact head speed I'm running but it's somewhere around 2400-2500 RPM. Here's my setup.

CC Vertigo 550-3530 1175Kv motor
Scorpion Command V 130A SBEC ESC
Skookum SK540
JR 8717 cyclic
Futaba BLS256HV tail

I run 4400mAh 6S 30C Sky Lipo and 5000mAh 40C Haiyin batteries.

How are you guy's flight time with a 6S setup ?, I have purchase an E5 kit and assembling items right now but I can make up my mind about 6S/12S setup . I like the one battery 6S and like the 12S power . I have a CC-120 Edge ESC in hand, I was thinking 4025-1100 6S power and 4025-580 12S. I fly moderate 3D and some big air. Power and flight would be a concern in a 6S setup for me. I am strongly considering 6S, how good is a 6S power setup.

Thanks

As far as flight times I'm looking at 5 minutes with flips, loops, rolls, and a tiny bit inverted at the moment. I believe that would probably go down to about 4:30 if you're doing more aggressive 3D.

Power is no issue with 6S, mine is a freaking rocket at the head speed that I'm running.

I set my timer for 4:15 with the 4400mAh and 4:30 with the 5000mAh batteries.

i fly with the scorpion 1100 motor and kontronik 80 lv esc on 6s@ 2500. 4.5 min flight time on a 5000 thunder power pack going balls out.

moves about like my 14s goblin

I flew a buddy's e5 with the 4025-1100. With 6s 45c 5000s, it had tons of power. I fly an Align 550 with the KDE motor (same headspeed/blades) and the Synergy felt just as powerfull despite the extra weight. Great combo.

Thanks fellas, all them setups everyone have mentioned on here are all good!

I think i'm gonna go with,
Scorpion 4025- 1100kv
futaba bls451 on cyclic
futaba bls251 on rudder
either castle 120HV or Kontronic 120Hv ,with CC BEC 6.0v
Full size Vbar 5.3
6s 5000 45c on battery pks

Let me know what you guys think, and what is the right size of pinion i should go with if i go with scorpion motor 4025-1100kv. Again, thanks for all the information everyone has provided!

unless your thinking about future ESC use in a bigger model. the 80 amp Kontronik is more than enough esc for this heli and you save a few hundred bucks. the lv is $300

The e5 I flew had bls451 servos, worked great. The bls251 is an awesome tail servo too, I have run some for years with 0 problems. The bls256 is another great tail servo I would highly reccomend, it flies very smooth.

For the ESC, I like the Ice/Edge 120s for the price. The internal logging feature is great when trying different setups. I run Ice 120s in my e7 and another in an Align 600 heli. The e5 I flew had this ESC so he has the option to run a 600mm 12s setup in the future or stick with 6s and run 550s. Despite the warm weather (80-90), the esc barely hits 110-120 degrees after multiple flights on 6s 5000s. I am not sure which pinion my buddy uses, but I do know he runs no gov with 100% throttle for ~2500 rpm headspeed.

I did have an ICE 100 burn up last week in one of my 550s. After 3 years of working hard without a hiccup, I have no problem replacing it with the new CC 120 Edge. I have owned plenty of older Kontronic/Jive controllers, but the CC ECSs have been working great since I switched so I can't justify the Kontronic's large price tags anymore (for myself). Just do some research and buy whatever makes you comfortable, there are many heated debates on which ESCs are best or most appropriate for different pilots/applications.

If you want a BEC (not a regulator), check out Western Robotics. They have been much more reliable than the castle BECs I have tried and lose less voltage under load.

Hello Guy's

I have this motor under consideration X-ERA 4020/2y-1000 peak efficiency at 85A, for a 6S setup. What's your opinion of this for this heli.

Thanks

Quick question fellas who owns E5...Is 6s 5000 30c baytery pack discharge is sufficient enough to do some 3D for 4 minutes

I got wierd assumption that maybe a lower discharged rate vs. 45c to higher discharged rate will puff the battery up after flight.

Again, any info regarding what is the right packs to go with my new E5 build is very much appreciated.

@knuckledragger...Thanks for that info. Now I'm considering what you mentioned 6s-4400 30c battery pks for my E5 build. I think 2400rpm on E5 is more then enough to pull some heavy 3D maneuvers.

My new E5 build should be finished by next week. Just waiting on the batteries & servos & I'll post some videos.

Oh yeah, 2400rpm is more than enough for smacking it around. It flies great at 2250 and you could get a bit longer flight time but I really like it at 2450rpm. It really pops.

I just recently built my first e5. I used all the gear that Matt recommended.

Rail 556 mains
Rail 96 tails
Scorpion 4025-1100
13t pinion
Castle 120HV
6s 4400 40c batteries
Futaba BLS451 on cyclic
Futaba BLS253 on tail
Ikon FBL controller
2300 in idle 2

I have flown this bird with several different 6s batteries, Zippy 5800 30c, Hyperion 4200 35c, Sky Lipo 4400 40c, Thor 4400 45c. They all fly well however I can notice a difference between the 42-4400's and the 5800. The 4200 is light and quick but the flight time was short(3:30 min) The 4400 was a lot better in flight time and comparable in weight to the 4200. The 4200 I used was old and tired also, it didn't balance correctly and has been put to bed. The Sky and Thor packs yield about a 4-4:30 min flight time. The 5800 is great for long flight times(5-6 min) and heavy wind penetration but its heavy and the model is quite a bit more sluggish.

Tomorrow I am starting the build on an e5 stretch(600) For it I will be using

Rail 606 mains
Rail 96 tails
Scorpion 4035-560
Castle Edge 120HV
12t pinion( comes in kit )
12s 3300 65c batteries
Savox 1267s on Cyclic
JR 8700g on tail
Blueline Mini V-Bar 5.3 Pro
2200-2300 Headspeed

I'll let ya'll know how it does!

Can the E5S be set up with 620mm mains? It seems like a pretty flexible size and design!

I think you'd have to use an N5C boom and torque tube to pull it off. But with the 715mm boom you'd be into the tail rotor with 620 blades.
