So just what size IS a Goblin 500?

McKrackin

I recently saw a pic of a Goblin 500 next to a Trex 550 and they are roughly the same size.

Is this right?

Might make me rethink my new E heli.

Yes, they are roughly the same size. I check the Goblin500 spec against the actual measurement of my Trex550. The Goblin is only about 2 to 3 inches shorter.

The Goblin 500 is a "true" 500 like the Logo 10 was back in the day. They are supposed to make a 550 soon anyways that will be able to swing 550mm blades.....Ron

Thanks.
That seems better than a 550 to me.

So the G500 is almost a 550 or 30 size heli with mini servos?

Seems a bit odd.

That doesn't mean I think something is wrong with that by the way....just seems odd.

Big difference between 500s and 550mm blades. Look at the Chords on those blades. Also a big jump from 550s to 600s...and so on.

550,600,700,800 and even 1000 class helis all use the same servos.

I guess 500mm blades is the cut off for standard servos.

Well there is a huge jump in torque from a mini to a FS servo as well. Mini servos just don't have the umph...

That's exactly what I'm getting at.

The Trex 550 uses standard servos while the G500 uses the same size servos as on the tail of a Trex 450.

Seems like a heli the size of a G500 would use standard servos.

I'd like to try this heli soon I think.
It has some unusual differences from the norm.

I think the large size of the heli is decpetive, all true 500 class helis use mini servos....the boom and canopy make it look bigger though

edit....most true 500 size helis...

The Goblin 500 is extremely light for its size. It does NEED not kind of or maybe but NEEDS 8v HV servos IMO. I have a G500 from first batch and it is trouble free and flies great BUT it is mushy on the servos a tiny bit. It bugs me bad.

Now... I do not have the best servos money can buy in there. Rather than name them they are a high quality servo. Made by a top servo maker. They make the average 60-65 oz.in. of torque at 6v. It is NOT enough for hard flight.

To get a REALLY crisp machine you will need a servo that makes over 90oz.in of torque IMO. JR and Futaba makes some. Get you wallet out for both...

MKS's new king servo coming is way out front of ALL others. HV9767 Cyclic Servos due out early summer. They make like 125 oz.in. each. MORE than plenty.

Now I am flying mine HARD. I am not going easy on it and I have the biggest Scorpion in it and YGE ESC and I am running V-Gov. I have it setup for +-13Ό of pitch and 2750RPM. The servos are just a little mushy and getting worse. Just too much load for 60oz.in servos.

NOW for hard 3D SAB has a chart and mine are too low so SAB did warn me. I thought they would be good enough and they are not so... No one to blame but good old me.

I fly JR8917HV's on my L700 Xx and needless to say the G500 doesn't give me that kind of SUPER stop on a dime feel. Those 8917's feel like they could break you hard if you tried to stop them. These servos I can push against easy... The G500 is not a big 700-750 class model either but...

For me to be happy I am waiting for the MKS9767's. Just know for hard 3D the SAB/HeliDirect chart for servos is DEAD right.

The Gaui X5 is a "true" 500 class machine and runs standard size servos on all control surfaces...

Mounts for fullsize DO NOT come in the kit. They must be purchased unless they come in the kit now. Mine did not come with any on run #1 of the kit. Also the canopy will have to be cut up to get them on as well.

This heli simple was not make for fullsize servos. They can be used but it is not plug and play to do so.

Good point on the canopy issue. I've also read you would have to modify canopy to make the standard size servos fit.

I see no problem with the mini servos as I have the JR3717HV and works great
