My plank only friend has one. He has no heli experience. He's watched vids and has tried ROG and hand-launching. ROG always rolled over after lift-off. Hand-launching he has had one successful take-off and some flying, but crashed due to orientation.
Seems to be workable after some more experience.

I just got mine built. Nice quality and quick build. Radio and batt compartment is kind of a tight squeeze. It's been fixed but by chance your directions show the rotor tilting right for left roll, its wrong. Left is left.

They are different to fly that's for sure! I am building mine now but it is so cold out I am taking my time. So I am balancing blades etc too.
I have never owned an AutoGyro that has a working elevator and a one axis head. Oh yes I am aware of the instructions boo boo. But thanks for the heads up though. It was not correct in my instructions either.

Picked one up a couple of weeks ago and just flew it tonight in light breeze.
Fortunately I knew to dial in some down elevator spun up the blades and she flew straight ahead at about 1/2 power.

Used an old 15C 3S1350.
Highly recommend anyone wanting to try one of these birds to pick one up.
2 Thumbs up.

Nice to here you are happy with it. My Auto G sits awaiting warm weather. Where did you hear about dialing in down elevator?

I have built and flown a number of gyro's over the year's and I know from experience how they behave.
Basically like a big flat bottom wing trainer plane. Ya always have to play with the elevator and throttle.

I also like doing flat turns, so I give it right aile while turning left with rudder. etc.

Ya dont want to over bank angle these things.

Its a good flyer.

I fly gyros also but I have never flown a gyro with an actual elevator and a one axis head. They are two axis head and no actual elevator ,only rudder. I am familiar with the left rudder right aileron scenario ,,lots of fun and different. Good to be a heli pilot because we are used to using the left stick ,,instead of only the right stick bank and yank stuff.

Ya might want to check the blade balance along with the CG.

I also replaced the inboard blade mount screw with a 4-40 nylon screw, some folks use toothpicks I prefer nylon screws.

Good idea with the nylon screws ,,I have some 4-40 nylons and may give it a try. CG seems to be correct with the 1350 mah 3C lipo. I balanced the blades as I do on heli's.

Auto g Bldes

I got one {durafly auto g} its been great but I hit a fence and broke blades.
the blades have to come from china. I have some eco 7 blades that are almost perfect.

My ? is they are made to go cw and the auto g are ccw does it matter I can,t tell on this one that theres any pitch changes if you swap it around. anyone know for sure or have tried it.

Thanks

Can't give to much on setup, but a friend has one. Two weeks ago he was carring it back from the high grass beside the runway when I got to field. Seems he had just lost orientation and hit the ground right before I showed up. You need to put pieces of toothpick in the blades to lock them before flight, all he did was shear the toothpicks and nick the trailing edge of one blade right at the root. He wanted me to try it, so we put in new blade locks (toothpicks), and he spun up the blades and gave it a toss. It actually flew pretty good, I flew it around for five or six minutes before landing it. It is pretty hard to see, haveing a lot of heli time helps and he is an airplane flyer. It has a tendency to be slow coming out of a turn from upwind to downwind, more so than the turn from downwind to upwind. Comeing in for landing you have to give a little power as you rotate or the nose doesn't want to come up. It really helps have both a lot of fixed wing and heli time. It is even harder to see than a heli, since it has so little side area.

Yesterday he showed up with it again. The first flight he did pretty good but a couple times he lost it completly and I had to tell him which way to turn it to get it back to where he could see it. He eventuall lost it in a low lever turn, but all it did was break the toothpicks and fold the blades. Second flight he lost orientation again a few times but managed the whole flight, only problem he had was not giving it power as he flaired causing it to hit a little hard and fold the blades again.

This thing looks like it will be a lot of fun and is tougher than it looks. I might pick up one for myself this summer.

If the new blades you speak of can go either direction I would assume they are symmetrical. Autogyros will not fly on symmetrical blades. They require a flat bottom blade with a certain aitfoil to work.
I own a Hobby King Cierva C30 that came out so heavy I made bigger blades to make it fly well. Making blades isn't hard and doesn't take to long .

How can I make the blades?

These blades are flat on bottom.

Hey Joe. I found this video on how to make autogyro blades.
Check it out.

Watch at YouTube

For my first set on blades I shaved by hand with airfoil templates on either end and drew the lines at the high point and a few reference lines. I used a balsa plane. I did not glue on a harder leading edge. I used 1/4 inch sheet balsa cut to length and width. There are a few things to do like leading edge weights,,,and the balance point span wise and chord wise which determine the bolt hole location.

Here is part 2

Watch at YouTube

I dont remember if he added weights to the leading edge. He may not have because he glued a harder heavier leading edge to the front of the blade. Because of this he may not have added weights to the blades.

Blades

Just so people know on the auto g gyro if you find cw rotating blades they will work if you turn the plastic piece that goes under the blades around so the pitch will be correct.

take off

I have been fling my g for 3 weeks or so but i have to hand launch it!
even with down elevator it turns onto its left side. I know it's because the blades are creating lift on the right side but i see other g vidios and they take off from the ground. First time fling an autogyro rc what am i doing wrong. It hand launches fine but id like to build a micro and a larger one also would be thankful for any info!!!

THANKS
