YS 60 SR

Finally found out what was blowing up my YS-60sr engine

As I was hovering my Trex600N with the YS-60sr; I had another pilot to run the tachometer. In normal mode the engine was fine but whenever I switched to ID1/ID2; my head speed went up to 2200rpm.
My Align governor was over revving my engine at 2200rpm. I'm thinking maybe my fan magnets may have come off but I will check it later this week. May consider getting a Spektrum Backplate sensor and run it with a Multigov.

I like to add to this...I was having leaning issues on the first flight..everything was new, tubing, chk valve, fuel filter etc.. and second flight it spit the glo plug out. So I evidently didnt get the plug screwed in tight enough and it backed out...after tightening properly zero probs after!

Sidebar:::: anyone seeing that the back of the head sweats oil?? head bolts ARE tight, plug tight, muffler tight etc...?

ideas?

I'm using the Hatori HA-2060 for the 60SR - works well.

Hey Guy's

Have any of you pilots use a Hatori SB1 pipe with your YS60. If so please do comment. I am planning installing a YS60 in my MA Fury 55 over the winter .

Thanks

I run the SB1 on my YS60SR. Motor and pipe work well together. A few friends have flown it on my TT X50 and say for its size, power is fantastic.

New setup with YS-60SR

I just purchased a Spektrum backplate sensor. I'm going to run it with the Align Governor and Spektrum DX8 TX.

Does anyone know the percentage to set the Align Governor to run the YS60 at 2050rpm head speed within the DX8?

Cool. I ordered the SAB-1 directly from Rich at HatoriUSA.com yesterday. Everyone else was out of stock.

YS-60sr is running great with the Funtech muffler. I did a couple of flights with it on my Trex600N on yesterday.

breaking in after detonating piston

I had a detonated piston happen on second tank. I had misadjusted my mid needle, and believe I overloaded it pitch pumping it. I was at 1 1/2 turns out on High, and 1 5/8 out on Mid. Liner was perfect, debris in rear bearing, hole in the piston, and ring damaged. So I cleaned it out, replaced the piston, ring, and rear bearing.

I am running Vbar gov., OS#8, stock shim, Hatori SAB-1, and Cool Power 30, and Spektrum backplate sensor. IU1 is delivering 1650 rpm, and IU2 is 1800 rpm. To me, this seems a good, safe rotor speed to fly around and gently break in my engine. It's a just a bit inconsistent, but flies fairly well. I am at 2 full turns out on High, and 1 7/8 turns out on Mid. I am pretty sure it's very rich on high, which seem okay for now. It's not very smooth as of yet. Backplate is warm to the touch.

So, I guess, so far, so good. Definitely not as straight forward tuning as the OS55's I've had. I am struggling to detect what it needs, if anything, at this time. OS#8 plug looks good.

Should I simply run it like this and let it "tell me" it's ready to lean? Should I expect it to begin to clear out as it breaks in?

I am also considering potential for the backplate sensor to give intermittent readings, so I need to download the event log and look for sensor errors.
