Which is better? If going with 3s then I'm going to using 2 3s 2200 in parallel. If using 4s I'm using 2 2s 5000 hardpacks in series. I will be installing go pro and the gps for now. Thanks.

is that a new heli? Oh no honey, its the same one w/different stickers.....

I preferred it on 4s myself, with the added weight of camera I think it would be the way to go.

What props are you going to use? I hope not the stock props. I had the old and new props break in the air even with out the weight of extra equipment.

Go with 4S. I use 4S with 10" props, even though it says to use 8". I feel it flies much smoother with 10's.

3 or 4S

I have a F450 running on 3S 2600mah lipos, 10" Gem props. I am using my go pro with it. What kind of flight times can I get with a 4S setup? And can I use a 3300mAh lipo?

Just call me Farmer Brown. 'Cause I know how to really plant 'em

Using 4S and 10in props on the stock DJI motors is over-amping them. You will drastically reduce their life and introduce a failure. I highly recommend against it. As far as batteries, the 4S on 8in props on that frame/esc/motor combo are fantastic. Lots of power and excellent flight times. I have seen people use up to a 6000mah 4s lipo, but it's a bit heavy and seems to be over weight. Going with anything from 3300 to 5000mah (on the high side) seems pretty good. I set one up for someone like you stated with 2x 4S 5000mah lipos, but it was with frame extensions, Avroto motors, and different ESC's. It was to carry a big gimbal and DSLR, but it worked great. I think 2x 5000mah 4S on a stock setup would be severely overweight.

I use 4s and 8" Graupners. I just can't see how it could be any smoother flying. No jello in the video.

Does anyone have actual wattage or current draw data using 4S, the stock DJI motors, 10" stock props. and hauling a gimbal/camera? I hear alot of opinions but no data to support them.

What kind of flight times are you getting with this setup - stock DJI motors, esc, 8" props and 4S?

Not a DJI but....

This is my current draw with Avroto and 12X3.8 Hex unit carrying as shown in chart.
Not what your asking but maybe a guide. With 11X4.7 props (APC) exactly the same current draw shown in chart below.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I get about 10 min with my Liquid Image Ego onboard. I also have the weight of lights all around, gps and Align Trex 700 LG. I have not weighed it yet.

This Ecal really helps a lot. It will tell you if your are over the max watts for your motors and a lot more.

http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc_e.htm?ecalc

P.S. I fly a F550 with 10-4.7 props and with the 4S it will put my motors over the wattage limnit.

I am tired of reading all the posts stating that running 10" props on a dji 550 with 4S will over amp and ruin the motors without any backup data so I finally decided to chime in with backup data.

#1 - LARGER PROPS ARE MORE EFFICIENT
#2 - STOCK 550 ON 4S HOVERS WITH LESS CURRENT WITH 10" PROPS THAN WITH 8" PROPS

I am flying my stock dji 550 using an Aurora9 radio with telemetry reading battery voltage and current back to the transmitter.

I have kept the weight for each the following cases at 2740gm

Case 1 - 2-Turnigy 4S 3600 30C batt in parallel
Stock dji 8" props
Hovers at 16.0V, 31.4A = 502W

Case 2 - 2-Turnigy 4S 3600 30C batt in parallel
APC 10x4.7 props
Hovers at 16.0V, 27.6A = 442W

For those interested in the difference between 3S and 4S I including the following test

Case 3 - 2-Turnigy 3S 5000 30C batt in parallel
APC 10x4.7 props
Hovers at 12.0V, 34.5A = 414W

Although the watts for the 3S case is a little lower than the 4S case using the 10" props, I have found that 4S is required for the heavier weights especially when I add my gopro3 camera and video transmitter. On 3S I have a problem later in the flight sometimes with holding altitude correctly with the stick at center especially with the added weight of the camera and tx. The dead band actually goes away and I get a double blinking green led. I believe the power available using 3S is not enough to control auto altitude hold correctly.
I have never had this problem using 4S and 10" props.

Very interesting.

Thanks for sharing that data!

I personally tried GWS 9x5x3 props on 4S since I had good luck with them on my F450 on 3S. However, on the F550 on 4S the motors ran too hot for my taste so I switched-out the GWS 9x5x3 props for the Graupner 10x5 props. The motors ran cooler AND I got 1-1/2 minutes MORE flight time per pack. I was expecting the longer flight time since the 3-bladed props are less efficient but I was pleased that, although a larger prop, the 10x5 Graupners enabled the motors to run that much cooler.

hmm

Interesting. I would think the 10" and which prop pitch as well as the KV might be the scenarios where problems would come up from? I have asked a couple of people who i respect on their thought as well since here in SD it can get pretty gusty. I hate the videos of FPV where the quad is bouncing all over the place and the controls are jerky. I really like the smooth setups so thats my effort in getting mine going.

rjpmodel1: what kind of peak amps are you seeing with the 10" props on 4S on the DJI motors as compared to 3S?
