BPS-1 or GV-1 gov sensor

In my T700 the sensor that came with the CGY750 snapped off at the mount... no idea how or why, did not nor has it been in a crash. The arm that sticks off the sensor itself was still mounted within the frames as I had left it during the build but the sensor was dangling after 15 flights. So I don't want to paint any horror stories cause I have not had a chance to further investigate if the screws are slightly loose or not! BUT, I have no choice in having to buy a new one...

Should I go BPS-1 back plate sensor or stay with a GV-1 magnet sensor, I have read some posts of a few folks that did not have good luck with the BPS. But that's not to say that everyone is having bad luck.

Help please!

Either way will work just fine.

One nice thing about the older style sensor is not having it connected to the engine when it comes time to remove the engine.

I'd like to try the back plate sensor just becuz it's not stuffed in between the frames. I just wanted to hear from someone using the Bps-1 and has had good luck.

Hi
I came from the old to the new without any issue. It is just working fine with no need to change any setup

Yea I wasn't overly concerned with engine removal and having to worry with this dangling sensor attached. Truth it sure beats having to dig in between the frames under and over servos and pull the clutch bell to get to the sensor. Dr. Ben PM'd me and said that my experience is unique as this usually wont happen for a multitude of flights this was my 15 flight...He also advised how to get it repaired so thank you Ben. I'll try the new BPS-1 for ease of future repairs.

Now, for those that are using the BPS-1, is the 701/750 gov reading 96%?? or at least 60%??

thanks

Yep, but, not like the other sensor, the ONLY way you will get a good reading is by turning the engine over with a starter, you will NOT get a reading above 26% when turning by hand. Has to do with the electronics in the sensor.

Typical BPS-1 readings are in tr 79-84% range. It operates perfectly at this range.

Just tried the bps on my Synergy N5C. I really like it. It works great and no adjusting the gap. You can just remove the 4 bolts that hold the back plate to the motor. I would give it a try.

You can buy just the plastic housing for the sensor. That would be the cheapest route. Hi frequency vibration can cause the sensor case to crack so the BPS-1 would avoid that issue.

Its installed I'll add the pictures I took tonight just incase someone wants to see how I did it. I DID USE the starter as if I were lighting it off at the field w/o the glow ignitor attached and it read 83%..I'm happy with that.

Side note do you have to do anything different i.e. re-setup the gov settings or just plug it in, chk for the percentage (83%) and go fly??

Thanks to all that posted.

One other thing, what did you guys use as your adhesive? I used RTV Ultra Black, it's the same stuff I use on my mufflers and it works great, no leaks. So I'm hoping it's enough adhesive for the sensor also. I DID NOT want to use any type of permanent adhesive's. I've read where people had to pretty much break the sensor when removing it.

Hopefully the Ultra Black will be enough, but won't be to awful if I have to remove it.

I just installed the sensor and flew. No need to set it up again. I got 83% when I spun it over.

I used little dab of red RTV and it is fine. Not to much or you will be cleaning it up. I test fitted the sensor first. You only need a little RTV. Black should be fine. Red is just what I had.

Just an update... This Gov works awesome, no changes made to the CGY750..Just plugged and went to play!

Having said that the day ended in a boom strike and it annihilated my 700, only 20 flights total on this machine... stupid Align links! I'll be changing those out ASAP, if I can find something. Horrible way to lose your heli with a link popping off in flight when it's not your fault! Not happy about that.

Does the BPS-1 require the special mount or can you make one for your engine? I ask this because im not real sure how this sensor works compared to the old gv-1

The BPS needs a back plate made by OS. There is one for a 50 and 90 size engines. There is not an after market sensor holder.

I also had endless hastles with my sensor , Just could not get it right due to limited space and dumb fingers I suppose (T rex 700n)

When I upgraded to an os105 I fitted the BPS-1 , It was fitted in 2 mins flat , and just works, Don't remember the reading I got but was within the spec and it works just great , If I need to remove the motor , I just remove the back plate, gives me a forced look into the motor , same time , LOL , I will only use the BPS-1 from now on , Even considered fitting a "plug" just behind the sensor , if it becomes an issue , I will do that cant see any reason why It wont work

I agree, boy is the BPS-1 easier. Trying to mount a sensor above the clutch in a T700 is a nightmare to get perfect. And then to have any flex while 3D'ing it's coming off! At least that's what I think happened to mine. A friend told me he saw wear marks on the bottom of his sensor on a 600 and all he does is fly circuits!

As for the BPS-1 a back plate costs $5 for a 50 size engine so very inexpensive!

Heres the pictures, I almost forgot!
