| Gearhead rrMaster | something said in another thread got me to post this, it's really strange and I have read little about it since I saw it on TV, any hoo, I will describe it as I have heard and read about itTime, very little people don't think about their Time, years ago scientist's use-to believe your day (or night) was like a box with a marble in it, meaning the box is the day and always there throughout the time of the day, and the marble (like you and I) are in the box (day) and the marble (we) travel threw the box (day) as it is always there, meaning if you go 3 hours into the future everything you own and see now will be there when you get in the future,,but today, many scientist's believe all that is not true, many scientist's today believe that the future is not there and only exists in our minds, we know the 3 hours will come, but it's not there yet,, what,, these scientist's now believe that Time literally grows, so, if you happen to go 3 hours into the future nothing will be there, nothing at all, not the Earth, no air, no heli, no TV, nothing, because Time has not been there yet, because Time has not *grown* to that point yetponder that, and lets us know what you think, true, not true, is the future there already ?? | Salty Elite Veteran | I think people end up spending too much time worrying about what could, should or has happened instead of worrying about what is happening right now.Bottom line? Who cares? It's nothing you can change anyway....Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you. | ||

| Climax Veteran | Time is a funny thing and isn't the constant quantity we perceive it as.The fact that two people can start at the same given moment, but one of them can travel to the others future by simply moving extremely quickly is a very odd concept. It's also amazing that Special Relativity is now over 100 years old, and has itself stood the test of time...Electronics, Physics, Helicopters, Fixing Things... | ||

| Gearhead rrMaster | ""The fact that two people can start at the same given moment, but one of them can travel to the others future by simply moving extremely quickly is a very odd concept""well, I would say to that, in that concept there are 2 marbles, and the box is much lager than the 2 marbles, but the marbles can move faster than the box what did I say LOLJim | ||

| Gearhead rrMaster | Climax,, something else, you can see the future,, if you are walking down a long road you can see 500ft down the road, and you know if you walk that 500ft you will be in your future, but your not there yet so it is your futureJim | ||

| Climax Veteran | If what you look at isn't too far away then the time interval is extremely small. However, if the event is billions of light years ways then that future may no longer even exist and is most definitely in the past!I like the thought experiment of being a Photon, what ever it does no time passes and from its perspective it arrives instantly at any destination it travels to. For someone observing it making such a journey, time passes normally. If we could build a space ship that could travel very close to the speed of light, then for its passengers enormous intergalactic distances would contract allowing them to arrive in reasonable amounts of time. The faster they travel the shorter the distance becomes, and at the speed of light the journey distance becomes zero. Anyone not in the space ship would just observe a very long journey that potentially could take millions/billions of years...Even if it was technically possible to engineer such a space ship, you would have to think carefully before embarking on such a journey! You would be travelling into the future of everyone you left behind. If you were to return what would you find all those years (10s, 100s, 1000s, billions) later into their future? The consequences of Special Relativity are counter-intuitive and weird to say the least!!something else, you can see the future,, if you are walking down a long road you can see 500ft down the road, and you know if you walk that 500ft you will be in your future, but your not there yet so it is your future | ||
