One of my battery packs for an electric helicopter ruptured a cell (it was a 4s4p Thunder Power pack).

I returned it to them thinking they could just replace the cell but they said that the best they could do was carve out the entire 4p block containing the ruptured cell and send me back a 3s3p pack.

This got me thinking - I could build two 2s3p packs out of the remaining cells and use them as receiver battery packs with 6000mAh capacity.

Does anyone have experience with using voltage regulators? All of my systems are running 4.8V Nickel-Cadmium.

Specifically, what voltage should I run at? Would it be 4.8V? Or 6.0V? Or something in between?

How do Futaba GV-1, GY-401, GY-601, 9252, 9253, and 9402 react to 6 volts? To 5.# volts? To steady 4.8V?

What about heat, is this a problem?

Voltage Regulator

I run all my electronics on a Duralite 5.1V regulator.

Yes

5.1V makes sense.

What do I do with my LED voltage display? It's going to show the same value all the time.

From the Duralite documentation, you can check the voltage at the special meter lead, but this is inconvenient.

Is there a way to keep the LED voltage display around?

Even with a regulator you can still use the LED monitor you have. Granted, it's not as informative as with a 4.8 pack but it's nice to know you still are at or above 5.1v and you'll see a problem before it's a problem with any luck.

Done

I used a 5.4V regulator from MPI. When the input voltage drops below 5.4 it becomes unregulated. This gives me a little more room for the LED display.

I'm using a Thunder Power 2s4p lithium polymer stick to replace a 4 Sub-C pack in my Fury Extreme.

It has 8000mAh capacity (!!!!)

I'm very pleased.
