RAPTOR 30
Carbon fiber fin set options for Raptor 30\50

I have a canopy coming for my old raptor 30 (man I love that bird). I wanted to replace the tail fins as well. I was horrified to see the price of a Carbon fiber fin set for a Raptor 30\50. ($59.00).

I can get an aftermarket Tail fin for $7 at Helidirect (Lynk) but I cant find a horizontal one.

I was looking for options. Anyone use one from another heli?

I am even open to getting rid of the horizontal fin all together but it is were the boom supports mount.

anyone able to get rid of, or replace theirs ?

Minnesota, Ya!

You could just use Align ones and redrill or elongate the holes a little.

If you skip me I can't play!

So I thought I would try the boom clamp from my X50. It seems to fit OK and I would be happy with no horizontal fin (I got a CF vertical one from helidirect for $7). The boom clamp cost $3 and I had a spare.

To make this work I have to make a modification to the boom supports however. I'm not sure if I should drill through the existing holes (A in photo) for the retaining screw or try and drill a new hole in the support to match the current one.

thoughts ?

I would go with "A".

Ditch the horizontal fin and use the plastic 3D mount for the Titan SE. Fusuno makes a verticle fin for $12 . See link

Easier :

Since the distance is already set:

Sand and rough up the poly support end - put a drop of CA inside the tube - shove it home. Then put a drop on the screw hole and let it wick to the inside.

Wipe it off with a bit of acetone.

Do it to all of mine -

Finished thans for the help

I measured and drilled new holes in the boom support and put the same screw back in. She is VERY nose heavy without the old tail fin set. So I will have to move the rudder servo to the tail from the nose position. Hopefully it will balance out.

I got the new canopy from HeliDirect ($37 was sweet). I think it really dresses up this old raptor.

The next on the list I think is to find a halfway decent $40 OS .37 for a bit more power.

You could always put a 50 size boom on it. Would help the CG and give tail more authority as well. I ran one of mine that way and worked great.

Nice Canopy

I like the way the black blends in with the frame and boom and the white makes the fuel tank less noticeable.
