OK I need some Tech help. Here is what I'm trying to do:

At our hunting property we have a big problem with feral hogs. We catch them on our game cameras every night but they don't pattern enough for us to catch them consistently.

I want to build something with a video camera to monitor the feeders and transmit video back to the house. We could hook it into the TV and monitor it while we are there. Once we see the pigs are there we can go take care of them.

Range is the issue, I have found some wireless cameras but non have enough range. I want to set up 3 different cameras, the furthest would be about 800yds. There are lots of trees in between the cam and house.

stage 2 of this would be to live feed it across the internet so we can watch from home.

If you have any ideas let me know. I plan to have a 12v battery with a solar panel mounted in a box with the camera for power supply.

Wow that's a tough go around. From what i have done in cameras, i would guess your going to have to use a VHF transmitter. I would mount it high in a tree, with a directional antenna pointed towards an omni receiver antenna. Unless all the cameras are basically in a line, then you could point directionals at each other.
Whats the cell signals like around where you want the cameras? Do you have internet at the hunting cabin where you want the tv-monitor?

You should look into what the First Person View crowd does for RC. I believe they are capable of transmitting at further distances than 800 yds.

I have a 900mhz downlink that would probably work but the TX gets warm after about 15 minutes. Im worried that it draws too much power for what I can provide. I would probably put it on a photocell to where it is only active at night.

There is no internet at the house but I would consider a wirless card on my verizon account if there is a way to make that work somehow.

Camera doesnt have to be anything special as long as it has some IR leds to see at night.

The FPV stuff would be fine, as long as you have a line of sight. It may still work in the 7,8,900 mhz band, just depends on the trees. 2.4 or 5.8 would be out i would bet.

The getting hot issue could be addressed with heat sinks and fans. Some way of turning on or off a transmitter would be a good thing, as full time tx would be tough on a cheap unit. You would be looking at an expensive transmitter for that.

So how about an ip camera, router and air card for the transport to the net?
