are there any reliable or accurate numbers as to how many rc heli pilots there are in USA? or world?.Just curious

I was also curious as to what the production numbers on some popular helis are.as in how many t-rex 600's or Whiplashes there are

A good starting point maybe IRCHA. There is close to 1000 pilots each year. Just have to figure out the percentage from that.

both runryder and helifreak have over 100,000 subscribers - how many are overlap is an unknown.
But there is a pretty significant amount around the globe.

Agreed. I bet the majority are like me. I've never been to IRCHA, and if you don't count the 5 flyins that I put on at my club, I've only been to 1 flyin in 18 years.

I'm not sure there is any way to get accurate numbers but it is somewhere between 1 pilot and 7 billion.

Yeah, probably. I just never feel comfortable flying with other heli guys in the air that I don't know, especially with the box format that most flyins use. I'm going to try to get over that this year and hit a few, although I doubt I'll do much/if any flying at them.

I know that my LHS store owner says that he has several customers who come in and by parts, but the only fly on there land, and do not fly at any of our local clubs.

I would think only a small percentage get to IRCHA on any given year.Especially with the economy the last few years

Also I'll bet the overlap between here and HF is very high.

hhhmmm maybe I'll make some calls/pm's and see if I can get any solid info about COMPASS.I would think they are somewhere in the middle as far as production numbers.With ALIGN being one end and companies like HENSELEIT and SHAPE being the other

Me too fender, I like to know how many Blade cps were actually sold or how many Align 450s were sold. It still wouldn't tell you how many pilots are still flying-- most probably quit in the first month then the heli gets resold and so on and so forth.

So do you count the people who have bought the Mall Heli's and the Air Hogs Heli's, or just the Hobby Shop Heli's? Cause that would add or subtract a few hundred thousand or so.

I seem to recall filling out a form with the AMA that asked what my interest are. Control line, free flight, model rocketry, RC planks, RC helis, etc. Therefore the AMA might have some good statistics.

for sure.Planes have been around much longer.And if funfly's are any indication around here, planes are MUCH more popular.As HUGE as helis Over Delaware is(one of the biggest I have been to and seen), Warbirds Over Del is way bigger.I was amazed the first time I went to Warbirds

The AMA might be a starting point but I bet it's probably 10-1 for those that fly without AMA membership.
