I'd hold off on that... I've read some nasty things about using castor oil in a gasser. Let one of the experts chime in on that, though. I'm new to gassers myself. I'm using Pennzoil Marine 100% synthetic based on countless recommendations.

Thanks Dood! How much would you mix with 2 gallons of Camper fuel? My gas can is 2.5 gallons so I will always buy use the same amount of oil I just don't know how much..

Get the Penzoil Marine

And mix it at 30:1

30:1 would be 10.67 ounces to 2.5 gallons of gas.

This calculator works well for figuring that out

What happens to a gasser using caster oil?? It is nasty stuff for sure and they used it in WW1 airplanes. Actually inhaling the fumes for a long time would give the pilots the runs I read somewhere.
I bet it gums up everything and clogs the muffler ,but I don't know.
What happens?

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

What happens to a gasser using castor oil??
From my experience with using it in 2 stroke motorcycles I am sure the Zenoah or any other motors would have the same outcome. Castor works well, smells good but it leaves a nasty burnt on film that is hell to get off if you were trying to clean things like up during a rebuild. On the bikes it would also gum up the power valves and that was a pain too. The heli motors don't have those so it wouldn't be as bad. It will also seperate from the gas when left sitting for a period of time or if it was real cold outside. I use to use it in bikes, karts and hot rod go peds but have got away from it years ago.

I have a case of full case of Blendzall Gold label hanging around if someone wants it.

Oh my God...

I have a case of full case of Blendzall Gold label hanging around if someone wants it.
Don't even give that away...Out of all the oils I've tried over the years, that was my first and worst oil I have ever used in my gassers. Castor is bad stuff!!

Raja, LOL, that is funny. I haven't used any of it in 15+ years, the blendzall that is. I use to run Maxima Castor 927 when I was racing motorcross years ago, it was good stuff back then and they still make/sell it now.

Actuall I only used the Blendzall stuff in a mod go-ped and some yamaha KT-100 kart motors. It will mix with alcohol and that is what the go-ped was running on for a while. You can add it to some reg gas to run thru a reg 4 stroke motor too if you want to get the good smell in it and for extra lube per their info. It does smell good but isn't worth the hassle it leaves ya down the road.

I'm sure nobody will want it. It is old, I wouldn't use it. I threw that out there to see if anyone actually remembered the stuff.

Yeah that is interesting, guess it was popular then eh?

As I was using it back in 1997, bought my first gallon of it to go with my 1005 gasser from Indy RC I believe it was back then. 15 years ago too!!

There wasn't many oils out then that would mix with alcohol and it was the most recommended.

I was in search of Klotz or AmsOil but could not find any. I picked up a small bottle of STIHL Synthetic. I believe its 5.2oz and makes 2 gallons at 50:1 I added the whole bottle to 1 gallon for a 25:1 mixture as recommended my by Zenoah manual. Am I safe? Anyone else use this oil? I have only ran 3-4 tanks. It seems ok. Very little smoke.

Any of your local motorcycle dealers should be able to get you some Klotz or Amsoil. I know of a few distributors that stock it and 95% of all bike shops buy from them. With your user name it looks like you are probably a regular customer of one close to you, lol.

I have been running Stihl HP Ultra for the last 2 years, currently 40:1. No issues. I ran it at 32:1 for a bit and then switched. Found my engines ran better at the 40:1 ratio. Have also tried the manufacturers recommended 50:1. No issues there either. Pretty much ran the same a 40:1.

Fastsrt - yes, but the local dealer is a rip off. I'll mail order some I guess.

Is the steel HP the synthetic? Is it ok to run those ratios? I swear the manual stated 25:1

Castor oil with camper fuel

Hello all,

Noticed this post and feel I must try to help you or others flying gassers. I agree with my fellow modelers, especially rbort, who has helped not only me but many, many others, definitely not to use castor oil mixed with camper fuel. I personally use Amsoil synthetic oil with camper fuel in my gassers with great success. When I'm out of camper fuel, 87 unleaded with the amsoil works well not only in the gasser heli but the weed wacker and chainsaw as well. When I mix the synthetic oil, it stays in solution and doesn't separate

I remember reading a magazine many moons ago called RC Modeler (now out of publication) that had an engine column written by Clarence Lee, a genious when it came to engines. He would swear that castor oil was the best mixing oil to use in model fuel, but not in heli engines. I remember time and time again people writing him for help diagnosing why there was a serious vibration in heli engines ran with a castor oil fuel mix. Not to mention the gummy residue that would be a by-product of running the engine that way.

Back in the day when these people were starting our hobby, I'll bet they never heard of the term "synthetic" and used the best that they had which was castor.

camper fuel? Are we referring to coleman fuel for the stoves and lanterns? You can use that?

Yes it is fully synthetic.

From manual page 6..... http://www.americanrcboats.com/imag...enownersman.pdf
• Mix gasoline (octane over 90) and high grade 2 cycle engine oil (mixing use type;F3C grade or ISO EGC grade) at mixing ratio 25~40:1.

The mixing ratio is according to the oil recommendation.
Most important part, IMO, is what is underlined.

Whats all this about fuel?

If you're not flying a gasoline helicopter
You're paying 10 times too much for fuel!!
