How does it tell you to tune the needles? low mid then high? If so thats how my 57 said which was wrong i had same problem you did. Should be low high mid i tried tuning mid first as specified and couldnt even get it up to temp would just die.

Yeah thats what it says in the manual. But i did from past breakins, doing idle, then adjusting HSN, then Mid needle. I will play with it more tomorrow. But im loving the engine so far. Every engine has its problems or perks at the beginning. Will get it sorted out shortly, and tuned in.

Tried OS 8 because it wouldn't idle worth a crap. And still same thing. Idle is all over the place. I'm going to change the exhaust o-rings, because maybe its leaking. But there is no leaking around header or exhaust.

I just don't understand the idling issue. I also barely leaned the needles, and its already running 220 degrees on head, and 110 on backplate

O dude did you shim the engine right this will cause major issues if not done correctly ask me i know!!! loleven at my altitude(6000+) i was told i didnt need to shim it but they were wrong the novarossi has SUPER compression and i think it comes shimmed from the factory at 20% maybe even 15% double check what you got

Oh yeah i shimmed it. I added the .1mm shim or whatever it is. The smallest/ thinnest one. so i have .3mm now. (.2mm stock+.1mm I added=.3mm) This is according to instruction though. im about 1,000ft ASL.

Correction. its .4mm for 30% nitro. I have .4mm not .3mm. Maybe i will add the other .1mm shim to make it .5mm and see what happens.

Muffler: im using the H9 Rex pipe. Im going to look at the o-rings tonight and see how those are. If they were worn out already, I would see oil leaking from exhaust. But its clean.

Make sure you hasve the carb fully seated into the block. Alot of people had overheating issues and thats all it was. Due to theres 2 orings

Yeah it seems mine doesnt go all the way in either. I pushed and pushed on it, and its as far as i could get it. It didnt have a flat washer like most do inside the block. Just the o-ring on the carb

My Nova didnt start to make good power until over 15 flights.
At first I was unimpressed, and thought I had wasted my money.
These engines are not broken in from the factory, there is no such thing done with any nitro engine.

For the engine dying at idle, I had to run my low needle lean until maybe 20 flights in.
After that I could fatten it up a bit again.
Before I leaned it, I would have the motor die 50% of the time while trying to get blades turning.

I had best luck with OS8 in mine.

My H9 pipe used to eat Orings for breakfast as well.
Keep your eye on them, as the originals were terrible.
I used Hatori Viton Orings, which were a tiny bit too big.
But if you grease them well, and take your time putting them in, they fit, and dont leak or wear out fast.

Gorn: thanks for that info. It sure helps!

I put the hatori o-rings in, and shortened the standoffs that go through the muffler grommets(hatori grommets as well) so it is more stiffer and doesn't move around.

I don't know whether to add a shim or not. I'm stuck! Or just leave it and fight it though more tanks. I have an 8 in as well for plug

And the piston still looks good. Still clean and shiny.

Im at sea level, and use the factory recommended shims for 30%.
1000ft isnt really warranting and extra shim on top of what they recommend in my opinion.

Get through 3 gallons of fuel, and that motor will wake right up.

If you still have issues then, post a short video so I can see whats going on there.

Thanks Gorn. Will do. I have a fun fly this weekend, so lots of fuel being burned. Im thinking its not broken in yet. Still cross hatches in the cylinder walls from being honed. So time on the engine is only thing now and see what happens

+1 ive noticed its geetting more powerfull as flights go on too im on 11 flights 6 of which were hard i tried 620's for the first time they boog i wasnt used to the nova boggin lol since ive gotten this motor collective managment hasnt been a issue Novarossi has truly a Power House lineup!!!
