My Freya (bought used) is set-up with the white 93T gear. It's powered by a OS 61 engine. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this 93T gear over the 95T....and visa versa? Using the 93T gear I know the RPM will be higher for a given engine RPM. Can the OS 61 handle the extra power required by using the 93T gear? Is this correct?

Thanks,
Tom

I'm running this setup now and its doing a-ok.

So far the hardest things I have attempted personally is multiple rolls and sustained inverted flight. The better guys who flew it did rolling circuits without causing the engine to sag so I guess it's fine. However, I do use 660mm blades since I know I will put undue load if I use 680mm blades and I am not doing any harsh 3D.

Tom,
The 93 tooth should be fine. A lot of people with the YS go to the 93 to make the engine a bit happier. The os will also do fine on the 93. There are helis running an os with lower gear ratios than 9.3:1 with no problems. I believe my x-cell graphite, I had a few years ago, had a 9:1 ratio with the os 61.

The 93 tooth will mean slightly less noise than a 95 tooth. The 680s should also be fine. The autos will be improved with the larger blades.

the machine auto's forever on 680's.

Due to the head design, 680's are equiv to
something like 700-710's on most other
machines.

Just the gear. I measured the diameter of the 93T vs. 95T stock gear and it's the same, only the number of teeth are different. FYI a stock R60 also uses 9.3:1 gear ratio.

When I pop in a YS80, all I need is to swap the pinion (or clutch bell w/ 11T pinion).
