| wrongler | If you are flying at a AMA field, it is required along with buddybox. If you are flying at home or elsewhere it is required. That being said, I dont know anyone that has gotten the Ham license. I guess its all about how far you want to push it. Not sure what the consequences are. There are a lot of people flying without it. The only license required is the TECH. Ham."Gotta Luv It". | ||

| Dr.Tim | Only takes a few weeks to get the tech ... well worth it.From Simple minds come simple ideas! Approach Engineering, Aerial TEch Systems , X468 | ||

| GyroFreak | I got mine (KJ4VKS) for that reason, but as I understand that is required only for the higher power 1.2 mhz units (Over 100 mw). Any way I went with 900 mhz and it performs fine for small distances that I will be doing.Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak. | ||

| GyroFreak | Also keep in mind that the high power transmitters can overwhelm your helicopter receiver since it is only inches away, even on different bands of frequencies. Careful shielding and directional antenna may be needed.Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak. | ||

| Dr.Tim | I have a 2.4 .. 1 watt downlink that I flew with my JR 12x ..(2.4) without any issues at all .. I know it is not recommended by a few but the freq.s don't touch ..From Simple minds come simple ideas! Approach Engineering, Aerial TEch Systems , X468 | ||

| GyroFreak | Correct in that the frequencies don't touch, but there always exists a possible problem called inter-modulation detection overload (or something) that I can't remember. The transmitted power is demodulated by the local receivers internal circuits, not the tuned part that selects the frequency to receive, but the detector and and following circuit components.

| xfc3dcd Senior Heliman | Sorry but Ham doesn't apply to commercial work...amateur/hobbiest only. | ||

| GyroFreak | ^^^ That is true, but 99% of FPV or AP work done on RR is for fun/hobby. So getting a ham licensed like I did is so you can use more power and operate in ham bands specified for data/video operation. I never used it but always wanted the ticket anyway. | ||

| xfc3dcd Senior Heliman | When the word "work" is used, quite often people associate it with getting paid in some fashion. | ||
