Hey Mark

If I put 2.4 in the first search box, it takes out the dot and makes it 24. But I'm trying to search for 2.4 GHZ stuff. How do I do that?

I thought to put 2.4 in one box and GHZ in the next but its not working...

Thanks for checking into it.

A period breaks the word (chars) apart. Search "2 4" as a phrase.

I need to be able to search on the 2.4 word

Not 2 space 4. I tried that but it doesn't highlight 2.4 in the findings.

I thought I should be able to put 2.4 in word 1, and Ghz in word 2.

The way you're trying to do it ends up finding all the 2's and all the 4's seperately and you get extra things like 4.8v (finding the 4).

Thanks Mark,

Mark has gone through like 4 solid search iterations and there is something about each of them that folks don't like or can't adapt to.

He's been attempting (seemingly feverishly) to meet everyone's needs, it's unrealistic to think he is going to hit the mark for everybody.

I like simple keyword searches with the ability to filter by forum, that's basically all I need.

Mark, I think a simple keyword search box in the upper right hand corner with a checkbox that confines the search to "this forum only/this thread only" would certainly fulfill the 90% rule. Here's a mock up of what I'm suggesting:

Less is more, the REFRESH link can go.

(if you're using mysql's full text search the results should be lightning fast)

It gets you very close. Do to design constraints I cannot give you exactly what you want. A period character is NOT hashed into the word database. A period is a word separator.

Can you use a literal string to force the period to be evaluated,
i.e. "2.4" in quotes, or use some escape character to force the period to be evaluated 2//.4?

No

For now, a period character is NOT hashed into the word database. A period is a word separator.

It is unfortunate that the list is sorted at random, most of the time bringing old posts at the top, which is very annoying.

RR Native Search Good to Go

OK lets try it again. Now if you place multiple words in the first word field the words will be automatically split up and spread across the subsequent fields.
