Does the DX8 really have problems? Users of the DX8 please share. Also heard Spektrum service is bad, sending the radios in for repairs.

No! Some of the earlier units did. The problematic PID numbers are posted on the Spektrum website. Any new unit should work fine like mine.

The bulk of the issues revolve around three issues:
1. Using the DX8 with older DSM2 receivers.
2. Users mixing the satellite antennas on the newer receivers with older models (the satellites on the AR8000 and newer DSMX receivers are different).
3. A few issues of bad pots in the gimbal assemblies causing some issues.

If you send in an effected model for the recall, all these issues should be addressed. Note, you should have no problems if you use newer receivers particularly DSMX receivers, even without the recall.

Both my DX8's have been to Horizon Hobby for service/recalls. Both had the shipping paid both ways by Horizon. Both were in and out of their shop the same day. Horizon service has been great, my experience.

I like my DX8 enough to get a 2nd one. It does have problems but for me the problem I had was the older DSM2 park flyer RX's would reset when flying inside metal buildings. Changed to DSMX receivers, no problems. I have several old AR7000, really old - first release. They've never had a problem flying with my DX8. I've had my DX8 since September

bought mine in Feb... upgraded to v2.01 airware... I have read on the web about and listed all the issues... checked mine for those known issues... I couldn't find any issues... using a DSM2 AR7600 and the AR8000 in DSMX mode...

Same as mine, only I have just one of them. Can't fault the turn around or the service. In England horizons service Is league's ahead of their competitors IMO

I have had no problems, and any I had were only in the back of my mind due to tales of woe on the forums.

Good luck

I had a 450 with a DX8 and a 6200 receiver I repaired for the LHS. I checked the pin number and it was on "the list". I passed along the info to the owner about the issue which he ignored. Fired the sucker up and after 3 minutes the heli went nuts. No damage to speak of. Checked it over and after a rebind it worked fine. Needless to say he's sending it in. Personally I won't touch nay of theses new radios for my use for at least a year. If they can't get this sorted out pretty quick it will kill them. Now I'm wondering about the "new and improved" DX7 thats set for release pretty quick just what nightmares can we expect from that.

That combo is known to be a problem with affected DX8's. Were the receivers flashing after the 'incident'? Were you flying it indoors? That was the indication that 3 of us saw when we were having the problems here. I personally haven't seen this issue occur outside with any DSM2 RX. Changing the RX's to DSMX resolved the issue when flying indoors. Sounds like Spektrum has a TX upgrade to fix the issue talking to older DSM2 RX's which is why they are doing another round of recall/fixes.

The point should be that customers shouldn't be treated as extended R&D teams for these companies. I paid for a product. I expect it to work. Sure you are going to fix my radio, but who is going to reimburse me for $$$ of damage done to my heli due to know fault of my own other than using your radio?

If it's advertised to be backwards compatible then make sure it works, BEFORE you ship it to customers.

DX8

Mine lost signal with 2 450 heli's because of the 6200 & 6100 receiver I was using.Yes there is a problem with those but never with my 7 or 8 channel receivers in my big heli's
The small receivers just can't communicate well and consistent with the DX8 so part of the updates is to fix that and also I heard the charger is not set right so I think they are correcting that while it is there
They are stepping up to the plate and giving good service, yes I think it should have worked too after paying for a new radio but at least they are honoring the warranty and repair issues well.
I trust them enough to have bought another DX8.I will have 2 good radios then, and with the memory card it is easy to swap back and forth
I like having a spare radio with many models so I am never without if there is an issue with one or the other

Who ever said that is badly mistaken or another brand loyalist! Horizon is one of the best for servicing! Yes there have been a few problems with the DX8 according to some but I have never had any with mine...

I'm from Italy.
Mine, bought half march, was OK with all DSM2/DSMX rx (Spektrum and Orange), but its PID was in the last bulletin.
So, I sent it to HorizonHobby Germany Service and it came back not working, with a "fault on RF board" (this was the diagnosis by e-mail from HH.de Service).
Now it is going to Germany again :-(.
I hope it will come back home soon ... and in good shape.
I sold my Futaba T9C with Spektrum module in april :-( :-(.

bought one of the first last year, crashed 2 airplanes before I realized I needed to send it in teh first time (last year)....after 3 times to Horizon over 6 months for various internal hardware upgrades, the RF firmware (v15) and hardware is finally working well (since april)...What a mess they got themselves into.

Haven't had any issues with my DX8 that I bought in March but I have not used the older rx's. Sent it in because of the latest recall and got it back 10 days later with a free AR6115 DSMX rx !!

Awesome service I think.

Love it more than my DX7 that I had for 4 years

I had a lockout today with an AR6200. I lucked out and was up high a little bit and takin it easy (not slamming it on the deck) when I lost all control and it locked out. Luckily I got it back in about a second or two and landed. Whew...

Damn!

I really don't want to waste the flying time involved with sending it back, especially since I need it for the DSMX receiver in my 700E which is flying awesome now.

So this problem is only with the listed receivers? Not an older Ar7000? I have an extra and could throw that in, until a more opportune time to send it in.

This hobby is like Kryptonite to chicks!

Who knows how deep these issues go. I wouldn't chance it. Isn't it fun doing their R&D with your equipment?
