I was on the phone today with another person. Both of us were on cells. It was about a 10 minute call when about half way through we both hear "this conversation is being recorded". Nothing identified who it was.

After the call I contacted Sprint, my provider. They acknowledged that they do record phone conversation for "QA" purposes. Not my call to Sprint, but regular calls. She said generally they do it with 800 numbers but after pushing her she stopped talking and said she didn't have any more info on the subject.

The US gov has been recording every single phone call, text message, email etc.... and runs them through the above program scanning for key words such as bomb, preseident, gold etc..

What was strange here is the voice came on during our conversation. I only ever heard that during customer service type calls and even then it would be at the beginning of the call. This was a non business call where both parties were on cell phones and the message occurred half way through the call. I found it strange.

Some people don't know this, but if your using a home phone, ie Land line. Anyone with in a a few hundred feet can her you and the person your talking too with a Hand Held Police scanner, just set it to scan all channels from around 800 MHz and up. If your talking, the scanner will stop on your channel, all the person has to do with the scanner is write the frequency down, then they can listen to you anytime they wish. I tried it a few times, to see if it worked, Note I did not care what the neighbors were doing, just testing it. I also would set and listen to McDonald's drive through to see what people were buying. They use some where around 800MHz, I no longer do this, just did it a few times to see if I could. lol

not strange, but very interesting. certainly learned some things that were important to know. you'd be surprised.

Many many years ago. I just had a Nice Bear Cat Scanner, and one day I was just letting it scan, and it started picking up people talking. I did not know who they were, or how close. So I figured it must be with in a few hundred feet, because home phones don't transmit that far, but it's possible could have been miles away who knows. But I did it a few more times, to see if It was just a fluke. just letting it randomly scan anything above 800. I was not looking to do this, it just happened the first time, so I thought I'd mention it. I thought it was right funny.

Personally I'd be more worried about Big Brother. I'd rather know something is possible than not know about it at all. This could save your life one day. The place this world is heading, you better grab every advantage you can.

I thought scanners were not allowed to pick up the private spectrum for cell phones by law. I'm sure you can get anything you want if you go to the right place.

I believe he's saying he picked up cordless land-line phone conversations, not cell phone conversations.

I read somewhere hearing conversations using scanners is legal. What it is not legal is to talk about or tell anyone what you heard.

Exactly, that was in my first post. But I failed to mention cordless I guess, just assumed most people had converted to wireless.

And if it's illegal to hear a conversation. Then I better plug my ears next time I walk down the side walk when im out and about.

I still have scanners, but none that can scan over 800 mhz. And I no longer live in the city, so only thing I could pick now is crickets.
