| Flying Fiz Heliman | Mine self destructed in one foot hover I bought the HK500 CMT.There were a couple of issues in the build, the biggest pain was the boom was way too long, lots of screws not properly bedding in etc.But it flew OK for first few fights, just mild sports flying. I decided to put on some quality CF blades, but for some reason they weren't tracking properly, so I took it out to a park to spool it up into a hover and eyeball it (from a safe distance luckily)to see which blade had to be adjusted, not 20 seconds in with a bit of vibration in the heli, one side of the metal tail casing just sheared in half, causing the other side to snap a millisecond later. It made a fairly loud noise and one of the tail blades shot off at a million miles an hour and landed 150 feet away.Whoa, never seen that before! The weak as sh** metal couldn't handle the torque combined with a bit of vibration (not an unusual combo for a heli). So it's back on the shelf with it- haven't even considered repairing it yet and I'll stick with my twice as expensive but worth every cent extra Align 500ESP.Stand back - You've been warned (a couple of times now). | ||

| jackheli rrProfessor | When I looked again the tail case was hanging from the belt...one side of the metal tail casing just sheared in half, causing the other side to snap a millisecond later | ||

| jackheli rrProfessor | Replaced the HK9257 with a spare Fut9254 I had laying around.Had 5 amazing 3D flights today. Finally got it to work.Phew! The sound this heli produces is really weird... but hey, seems to work! There is a little vibration probably from the power train that I can see on the vertical fin, but I am not sure I'll bother to fix.I am impressed with the $10 gyro. Really. ![]() It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right. | ||

| jackheli rrProfessor | Just to add up to the drama...on the six flight the tail servo broke off from its bracket...on the seventh it threw a tail blade grip...It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right. | ||

| Heliguychris Key Veteran | Wow, how unfortunate.Since this thread started, i have purchased and flown both a 600 and 450 HK clone, and havent had them explode, or fall aprt inflight, or anything radical. A few folks have complained at length about them. I completely rebuilt the models, and then flew them without issue Must of got lucky
And the 10 buck gyros.....do the silicone mod and they get even better.....trippy for 10 bux! Assumption is the mother of all F#@&ups..... | ||

| Slickrick Heliman | Silicon mode I think he meant grease it up with Slicon Grease. On second note, the horrible story about the tail blade holder flying off is true. I've research that myself. If you replace it with a $13.00 Align Blade holder, the problem is solved. Then again, another common issue with this Cheap Heli is Blade Tracking. I was first successful with taking out Blade tracking but after a few flights, there it goes again... Blade Tracking problem. | ||

| NLDIRENZO Senior Heliman | hk 500gt I am no expert but i have to strongly disagree... I bought an HK 500 and threw in some nice electronics i replaced the tail with a metal align one and the tail servo mount.. I fly that thing with no problems... i have a align 500 and you can obviously tell the difference but there hundreds of dollars apart. hk is a good bird to practice 3d on while you save your nicer helis...Did you mean to do that? Yeah its called a crash landing its a new trick | ||

| Phoenix69 Heliman | Interesting thread. I went thru my hk-heli faze. I bought 2 500's and 1 600..With all 3 I added all align electronics..Over a two year period flying these hk-helis the only problems i had were t.t rod breaking, Bad main gears, umbrella gears are to soft And tail hub bolts coming loose. The canopys are throw aways. I dont know why hk even sends ther kits out with em. All in all i think they are decent sport flyers. But thats wher it ends. I had alot of fun with my hk's. But like most in the hobby one comes to appreciate quality kits and electronics and moves on.Eye in the sky, | ||
