What brushless motors and esc's are the best to upgrade the CP PRO 2 to brushless?

Best motors are from Neu. The tail motor is the 'Proton' 507 series at 4000kv ($50) and the main motor will be the 'Neutron' 705 series at 4200kv ($55) with a 10t pinion. I'd get the main motor with the 2mm shaft (available in either 2mm or 3mm) because I believe it's more difficult to get 3mm pinions. I use either the Castle Creations Phoenix 10 or Thunderbird 9 for the main motor and the Thunderbird 6 or 9 for the tail. Best gyro is the GY401 from Futaba. Best props for the tail are GWS 3030s or 3020s. You can have $500 or more in one of these little suckers but if you have the resources they're fun. Oh yeah the best servos will be the MKS DS-450s and they're not cheap either!

I went the cheaper route with mine. I bought a brushless motor for the Blade SR, kept the tail motor, upgraded the frame to the microheli one, found on Ebay for half price. I upgraded the servos with the ERC ones with metal gears from Hobby Lobby.

It also has the E-flite metal head and bling. It flys really well. If you go too nuts with one of these you might as well buy a T-rex 250.

You said it, and you're right! The bling is usually worse for high performance too. The metal head would need work (stiff dampers at least) to get it to fly as well and a stock head with stiff dampers. The beauty of these things is that the stock frameset, though fragile, and plastic head with dampers fly great. The better quality motors, servos, and speed controls are really necessary though for real high performance. You have to set a limit on how much you'll spend on one of these things (but you're still in it for around $400-$500 any way you look at it to build a Campos Style Blade CP pro).
