I was helping a friend track blades on a year old helicopter when all of a sudden a link came loose and to the ground it came. I was able to get out of the way for the most part but it did cut open my shin and cut muscles and tendon. If I had not jumpped out of the way I may not have been here to share my experience. Please respect the power in these helis, they can hurt you extremely bad without out warning. I am still gonna fly after my surgery and recovery are over. Please do your regular maintainence and check even for cracked links. In the pilot's defense he is a great pilot, the heli was only 8 ft off ground, before he had a chance to react it came to the ground with what seemed full cyclic and positive collective. Thanks

i was two steps behind pilot. It bascially circled aroud behind us, came down and jumpped into my shin. I consider my self lucky because i did have my back to it then i just turned towards it real quick and threw my shin between it and me. It could have hit me somewhere more severe.

This is not what I would call a freak accident. I expect **** like this to happen. It is very hard to tell sometimes is something is broken. I keep my **** far away from me. I see so many people fly their helis close to them thinking they are special and their heli will not fail. Hopefully it will not, but i would count on it failing and hope it does not. The only time I fly close is when my heli is setup with a very low HS and with woodies. Just practice near the house. Anything big like 600, that **** is at least 50 feet away.

I will for sure never fly close to me. As for anyone who I spot if it comes close to me at all I will be keeping my safe distance. Lesson learned.

man that sucks about the cuts...but the canopy is cool...

YS nitro motor. Governor on at 1950 rpm. It hit the ground in front of me then directly into my shin. I get to find out on this wednesday if I have to have tendon surgery or just phy therapy. Little nervous about possible surgery.

Sorry to hear and, yeah, that's pretty rough stuff. At least no one can call "pics or it didn't happen" on this one. I pray you don't need surgery...

Sorry to hear about your accident. I would have fired the Doctor the minute he pulled out the staple gun. I hate those things, Stitches are the only way to go, the Doctors don't want to spend the time to do the job right. IMHO.
