Raptor 50 conversion

I'm about done with my E conversion.Just have to put the Rap 30 gearing in it, and see if I want to use a FBL system. I have a old SK360, but after trying to set it up in my E325 Mini Titan SE with a 4 bladed head, made me want to stay flying without a FBL system.

No clue yet to the brand I want to use.

Motor mount
Carbon fiber cut to fit, inside the frames. Rex mount, and the mount that came with the motor. Reason for all of that, is to get the height needed. Still need to make a mount to the front of the carbon plate, so I can mount it to the frames of the heli. The Rex mount will be used to bolt the frames in the back.

nice job january!

I am using the Turnigy 6S 5000mah from Hobby King and they are working out very well without having to spend a bunch of bucks.

more and more affordable lipos are coming out all the time and this is helping to drive the price down, which is very good for us

hello friends,

i was looking for a low cost electric conversion for my raptor 50 titan and finally found this thread. i am still new to this heli flying, so not i am not a 3d pilot only sport flying and scale.
bought a century airwolf 50 size fuse a year back, didn't had the time to build it. now i am thinking that i will put this converted titan into that airwolf.

i have just started the modding, filed the plastic fan out from the main fan hub.
it looks like this

i marked those circles to show that while filing it i rubbed it a little hard and it formed 2 or 3 small dents...i want to know if this is okay? or it'll cause issues?

When I did mine I slipped also and put one longer divit on mine.
I dry fit all of it and checked for play or looseness and found none.
I have been flying mine that way now for months and no issues at all. here is a video of how well mine was flying on it's second test flight.
My buddy Emile/Copterdoctor is doing the flying.

Hello mine was way uglier than yours as I have no hand skills at all... I have about 40 flights with it so far and it seems to be fine. I think that as long as the vibration created is acceptable, there shouldn't be any problem..... if you see that the vibration is pretty bad, then replace the part... but your part seems ok..... just my opinion...

Hi asif222

yes, still flying it and here is a video of the mechanics inside a Hughes 500E fuselage. The only distraction is that my neighbor started cutting grass against the fence LOL
I have had no problems at all and it flies really smooth.

thanks slider,
I am putting finalizing scale landing gear for it, then installing all the small details like door steps, decals, antennas, etc.

I pulled the mechanics out and installed a five blade head which needs to be phased, blades balanced and test flown.

Finally here is a decent video of my second raptor conversion using a Trex600e motor mount. The mechanics are installed in a Century 50 size Long Ranger for test flight looking for any issues. Only thing I found is I need to revise my throttle and pitch curves a little. It still flew very smooth and fast with plenty of power on 6S battery. I am probably going to go to 8S and we will see how it will fly. probably better and have to lower the throtle percentages.

OK, here is my other raptor, the titan 50 converted to e power with five bladed head added and still on 6S 5000mah battery.

I expected a big difference in performance, but other than needing to change to bigger tail blades, the heli pretty much flew the same.
BTW there is no stabilisation system on the heli. Emile just put in some mixing between elevator and aileron in the Tx.

well today I upgraded the electric raptor which is in the Long Ranger that runs on I believe an 800Kv motor on 6S. It seemed to lack the power that the other raptor with a 565Kv motor has on 6S even with a five bladed head installed.

I installed two 4S 5000mah in series and man oh man.
this is like a different helicopter. On 6S it flew good and in FF it was fast enough, but I found I was hovering at 3/4 stick or higher at 100%.
Well on 8S I had to lower the throttle to 70%, the headspeed is up and it just sits there happy as can be at half stick.
I am really loving this bird.
Now to pull the mechanics out of the fuselage and finish the detailing so I can paint it

hey Roy, i think they both have the 565kv motor in them. i knew it would be much better with 8S. the one in my lakota is the same motor but i am running 10S and it loves it so far. those vids came out great!

nice videos there heli143...looks pretty good.

i gave up on my conversion process, i mounted the motor in (century 565kv) and tested it without boom, main gear and rotor head and it was shaky, it even changed the sound after 50% throttle...dont know what went wrong, though the clutch bell is pretty free. my raptor 50 titan frames r different from yours.
bought a wookong-h for it, which i was planning to put in airwolf with it.i am thinking of buying a new kit now.

thanks guys!

I put the 8S in the multiblade raptor e conversion and it also had a better headspeed and was more stable than the last flight. It felt really good and flew nicely considering this is my first multi blade heli and has no stabilisation on it I felt really good about it.
Thanks Emile for a super set up on this multi blade setup!!

asif, I would check that your clutch isn't slipping as you advance the throttle. Both my conversions fly really well with no issues other than normal setup adjustments and tinkering as with any other heli. Also, I see you ran it up without the main gear installed and that is probably also contributing to the shake as the clutch has room to move around a bit in that configuration.

Woohoo!!!

Thanks mano! I have a feeling my Huey exhaust hole is gonna disappear.
A Huey sounds better with an electric whine than the putter of a nitro anyway

Coptor Doctor and Heli143, Are you using soft start in the esc and no gov and just using the tx throttle and pitch curves like you would in nitro mode? I'm trying to get mine setup and any help would be appriciated.
