Kaos frame for logo 500/600

I have to agree with Stolla. The standard Logo frames are not the strongest out there. First time I crash a chopper that I lost frames and got my 500se burnt out at that. I will definitely have a a look at the Kaos frames. It actually looks better than the Mikado CF frames that are coming.

Farm Flyer. So what does that make you? A chopper pilot?

It looks like Kaos is getting worried about the Mikado carbon frame coming out. I guess they want to get people into their frames so you will buy their replacement parts when you crash and not convert over to Mikado carbon frames. They are selling the Kaos carbon frames for $149.95 with free shipping.

My opinion

I am pretty sure the people that sell those frames could care less about what Mikado does with their carbon frames...

the Mikado frames are going to be who knows how long before they are available and on top of that they are going to be very pricey...

these frames have been on the market for over a year now and the free shipping has always been an offer ...

I think in the grand scheme they really don't care much about these frames .....but that's just my opinion..

I am a fan of the Kaos frames. If you look at my post in this section you will see why I do not own them. It is a convenience thing.
However, no company designs, tests, and produces a product without the intent to make $$$$$$. If you were looking to create a product to make money you need to look at supply and demand. Well they had NO competition when it came to Logo 500/600 carbon frame market and that is about to change. I am not speaking about the shops that sell them, rather the business that produces them. I do agree that the Mikado frames are gonna come with a price tag.

How often are you guys greasing the main shaft thrust bearings on your kaos frames?

Hey guys I was thinking of going this route as well. Does anyone have a parts list for the other stuff you'd need? Seems like the kaos comes with a number of things like a motor mount and boom holder, but i guess you'd need the whole tail assembly and gear assembly... anyone have a handy list? i've been getting lost in readyheli!

It might be pretty pricey to do it that way. I would buy a logo 500 kit and then upgrade the frame.

I want to convert my Trex600 to use Kao frame and Logo canopy.
I have a RJX fbl head and Trex swashplate. What size of main shaft will fit? Will T600 tail boom fit on the frame? Can I re-use whole tail case, pulley and pitch control system?

thanks a lot.

The swash plate and the RJX fbl head will fit in a mainshaft of 10 mm but I am not sure if the tailboom can be used, since the L600 tailboom in approx 25 mm diameter

Nope...most of those parts will not work on the Kaos frames and here's why..
Yes...the logo/kaos frames are 10mm main shaft...BUT

The swashplate is the wrong dimensions for the logo/Kaos frames...

and the boom for the KAOS/Logo is either 20mm or 25mm...the trex boom is 21 or 22mm? either way...won't work...

so realistically...what will work...the RJX head and that's it..

If you want a logo that bad then sell the trex 600 frame and look for a used logo or build one of these kaos from scratch...

I have built about 20 of these Kaos logos from scratch....it easy

Quality of KAOS frame is worse than expected

I use KAOS Frame in my Logo500 for 2 month. Quality of aluminum parts is not as good as I expected. One thread inside of bottom aluminum part was damaged even before assembly. Another one was damaged during assembly (too much power?) Tail boom is locked by 2 screws - I hope I do not over tighten them in future. Bottom plate is badly designed for keeping CoG with different batteries. I solved it. I put longer plate from glass on it. But, this is a "Tuning of tuned parts" ...

Frames...

Sounds like you overtightened during assembly...and of course aluminum is easy to strip and damage...

I have been flying 6 of these machines for well over a year now and I have had a couple of recent issues...but overall I have had great luck with these frames...as for the boom ...there are 2 metal clamps that secure the boom...and they are VERY stout..if you overtightened and somehow managed to strip them then you just use a nut on the backside of the clamp and you're fine ...not sure what the complaint is there?.try overtightening the bolts that clamps the stock frames to the boom and I think you'd be in for a surprise there as well....do a search here and see how many people have had issues with the stock frames and boom slipping issues...bottom line ..just don't overtighten...I have never had any bad threads so I guess I have been lucky...and I have assembled at least 20 of these frames...I did have a set of main shaft clamps that were milled a little large and the center tube slipped in flight...but that's it..

try comparing this to the way the stock frames hold the boom and I think you'd see it is a HUGE improvement...

I've never had a boom slip in flight...that's after about 300-400 flights on these frames...

as for the battery tray...not sure what you are talking about as it is pretty much the same specs as the stock system...BUT...the kaos frames are super easy to extend...you just buy an extra $10 battery plate and screw it right on to the bottom plate and you instantly have an extended tray good enough for 12s setup...I know because I currently fly 2 logo 600Se's running 12s setups

I run these frames on a logo 500/600/600se/700(710mm blades)

so as you can imagine my battery setups range from 6s 5000mah to 12s 5000mah and somehow I manage to gett he CG perfect on all of them...lol.

Hey...nothing is perfect...but personally I like these frames...

there are a ton of pics of mine in my gallery if you want to see my setups..

here's one of the battery tray

I love my Kaos frames. I crashed it once and the frames survived the crash...I am very impressed with the layout of the servos. This is probably the easiest frames to work on.

The swashplate is the wrong dimensions for the logo/Kaos frames...
Does that mean Trex600 swash is too big causing interference to the anti-rotation plate? Or are the arms of the outer race too long making the linkages to servo slant? If all 3 linkages are slant at the same angle, how will it affect flight characteristic?

thanks

Most swashes etc can be made to fit and for flight performance use the mik geometry tool which is very handy on any flybarless setup
Some pics of my efp kaos project thats 2x 5500 35c hyps in there with room to spare! just to show how easy it is to do some mods, check tail servo for instance.

I like the tail servo idea. I'm looking at doing a second Logo 600 with the KAOS frames. From what I've heard the new Mikado frames will be out in a month or so. I might wait and see how those work out. I imagine they will be quite a bit more expensive than the KAOS frames.

I also like the idea of the TDR head. I've looked on Jan's site, but I'm not sure what pieces would be needed. I also don't know if there would be a long wait like there is for the complete TDR kit. I guess I need to contact Jan.

Download the TDR manual and pick the parts you need, he usually stock all parts so should be painless. I havent flown the new head yet (bad weather!) but hopefully this weekend, although i have the 09 model TDR and actually think the 09 may be more suitable for hard 3d so if you're into that maybe get the old head.
I'm also awaiting the new mik frames but to be honest would stay with kaos if they are way more expensive.

Thanks. From looking at the two manuals the part numbers are the same for the newer 2010 parts so I don't know if you can still get the 2009 parts.

It also looks like this would need a shortened shaft as well. From a thread on the other site it looks you shortened yours by 30mm. Is that right?

OK. I just added it up and it would be about $300 US plus shipping.

I'm not sure it's worth double the price of the stock head to me. Of course, I used to think that about the Kontronik versus Castle.

did you deduct 17% euro vat?, also keep in mind you dont need a seperate swashdriver
Yeah i shortened the shaft and some mods on the links, will help you out if you go this route
