Wait just a little longer

Check over on HF, they are working on the same thing. Posted the phone numbers for family services and chaplin services at Mac Dill AFB. If someone can get through and see what is taking shape, go for it. I didn't have any luck but others working on this too. Wait and see if something gets established for this young lady.

This post is also about emailing the tv station an showing them not only our concern and philanthropy but also to let them know that AMA members adhere to a strict code of contact while opperating aircraft and we do not condone this type of behavior (park flying near or around people). This in my opinion is very important we unite in this task and hopefully we can turn this negative into a positive and maybe even get some positive coverage on our community.

this is definitly a sad story and the nerve of those guys to just leave this hobby is well known to have a good reputation and nice bunch of guys. I really dont know what to say. Well i fly at parks and have been told by my buddys they dont feel safe. I will be really rethinking my decisions on where to fly!! Anything could happen. Helicopters in my book are the most dangerous out of the whole rc community. All i have to say is im sorry we have stupid people making stupid decisions in our comunity.

This was no accident. These punks were buzzing her plain and simple and got too close. It may never be proven if they catch them, but I would bet all my heli's on it. They had to see her, and should not have been flying anywhere near her. Completely deliberate in my opinion.

i might go along with what AFjetmech opined. they might have wanted to have fun without knowing the consequence of their action. totally irresponsible.

as i saw in the video, they were three in the group. one could have acted as a spotter or caller while the other one was flying.

I'm 100% with AFJETMECH!! I think these kids tryed to play games with the girl without thinking the consequence. now it'll be better if they come out and take the bull by the horns.

It's a few idiots like this that are going to get our hobby banned. Maybe it's time AMA makes us go through a safety course before we are allowed to get an AMA rotorcraft card?

How can you hit someone and walk away? I'm sure that will be a felony in Florida.

maybe AMA can now require to have a spotter or caller when you go flying to a park.

as for myself, i don't feel comfortable flying alone. what if a blade flew off and hit me in the head or anypart of me? and what if the field is located far off from a main road?

i don't do scuba diving but i heard they require you to have a dive buddy.

This is truly unfortunate. I hope that some good can come out of all this. As others have stated, the best scenario is that all of us do not passively observe when fellow enthusiasts behave in a way which endangers others and the hobby as a whole. We have to be the one's who call people out. If we fail to do this then regulations and law enforcement will most certainly follow - as it should. Laws are supposed to protect people like this young lady. Imagine for a moment if that were your daughter, or your sister, or your mother. I may not have been able to contain my rage. Let's make this count.

It's a Trex 600 electric I'm pretty sure alright.

I don't know about in the USA but in the UK I feel that it's fine to fly in a public park as long as you do it SAFELY (above head height, keeping a look/ear out), something these guys were not doing, and with a spotter by your side who is looking out at all times.

If the park is busy it is best to just head home though as I do.

Also the insurance in the UK does cover you on public land, I am not sure if AMA does that in the USA.

Not to say that public parks are better than flying fields, heck if I could drive on my own and there was a local flying field around me I would sign right up, but there isn't anything for miles.

i agree its a 600 . look athe the way the battery is mounted. and the flybar is bent. and the size compared to his body.

OK so here are the facts jack.....

The pilot that struck the girl Maresa did flee the scene and provided no information. In the news report the end, the guy not wearing a shirt is the one that called 911. Today the police traced that 911 call and talked with him and he provided police with the information on who the pilot was. Michelle said the police will be talking to her tomorrow and provide her the name of the person. She plans to press charges. She also said the police plan to charge the individual as well since it is illegal to fly RC at that park.

Now regarding the donations. Michelle said the military covered the medical expenses through insurance but Michelle does not get paid when she has to take off work to haul her daughter back and for to the doctor. So she said she will accept any donations to help her out there and she really thanks all of us for our concern. She had no idea there was a large group of people out there that fly RC helicopters and that would care enough to even contact her. I told her that there were thousands that her about this and felt terrible about it and were very concerned.

So matthewspokane, if you want to continue your donation fund feel free, I will provide you Michelle's address as she does not have paypal. I will speak with her again tomorrow. matthewspokane I will PM you her phone number for now.
