where can i find piston and rings for G23
i can find the piston o.k., but i keep getting more than one part # for the rings. is there a difference in the different rings available?
i have a used engine{ total time on it unknown } and upon examination i found heavy carbon build up on piston crown. can this build up be removed? i figure even new ring set would not hurt,

Horizon Hobby is the distributor here is a link to their site and one to the piston ring page.

You can either order direct or have you LHS get it for you.

The G23 is very reliable. It was tested for up to 1000 hours of flight time. From my experience, the motor will accumulate carbon on the cylinder head since new. Unless you feel that there is absolutely no power from the motor...i.e. the heli can't lift off, I would not overhaul the engine. Don't fix what is not broken eventhough it is ain't pretty. Try the injector cleaner from the automotive store and replace the spark plug with NGK. You should see some performance increase. Good luck.

will try that route, as for performance, engine runs very well. i`m just into gasser and still trying to break my glow engine habits. will a plug examination be the best indicator of running rich or lean? what would be a good color to look for
thanks in advance

Plug is a good indicator of rich/lean running. Follow the guide in the automotive repair book to watch for lean run on the spark plug. Don't forget to mix some oil with the gas. Also, check you temp when you tune the motor for flight. It should be around 240-280 depending on the air temperature. If you are constantly getting over 300, you are running lean. Adjust your high needle to 1.25-1.5 turn out. Good luck.

for parts//////

B.H. Hanson has some stuff.......and he definately has indepth knowledge on these engines. I have one of his modded g-23's.....bad-ass for sure.

Read the plug......and don't let the carbon deposits bother you if it is running well. When you first lift off, it should "four stroke" the initial 30 seconds or so in hover.....then clear up. Another clue to lean bottom is it doesn;t die quickly when you kill the throttle.
